How to Roleplay For Dummies (and newbies)

Never roleplayed before? Then this is the thread for you1 You can contribute questions and others can give you tips!

Well, Um…. This is gonna kinda be a how-to guide. It will be sorta like a Notebook a.i wiki, in the fact that others contribute. and I might link to an RP for beginners.

A few simple rules.

1. ALWAYS ask before joining - unless the creator says not to.
2. ALWAYS follow the creator's rules. Some will kick you out after a couple warnings, and some will just yell at you. It's never good, so just follow the rules.
3. Whenever you're speaking as the narrator and not your character, use parenthesis. For instance:
   Cathy went to the kitchen. "I'm hungry," She moaned. (Hey, welcome!)
4. Please use proper grammar. Just…do it.
5. When we're gone for long periods of time from an rp, we refer to it as dying. (Sorry I died) or (I'm gonna die for like twenty minutes)

Sorry lol. We let things slide in parenthesis but it's just weird if a character doesn't use proper grammar (unless it's part of their template.) Speaking of which, you do know all the rp terms and what a template is?

Name: Jake
Age: 13
Sexuality: Straight
Outfit: Green shirt and white pants.
Looks: Black hair and glasses.
Personality: Nice and shy

DO:
Name:Jacob (Jake) Watson
Age: 13, turns 14 in two weeks
Sexuality: Straight
Outfit:Emerald green shirt, white pants with a blue stain on the pocket, and black Converse high-tops.
Looks:Raven black hair done in a mohawk, brilliant blue eyes, and purple-rimmed glasses.
Personality:A kind,polite boy with manners of a king. He is socially awkward and prefers to read books instead of talk to people. He has a slight lisp, and tends to stutter when he speaks.

For the first one, there is about a million different ways that this boy could look, even with this description, but the second one gives a clear image of what the boy looks like and how he is.

Oh yes. No one likes someone who isn't polite and some people get real worked up when no one uses proper grammar. Like me heh
