This book is confusing. But amazing. I really don't get it.

I personally loved the book even though it was given to me as an assignment by my teacher

I read it because I was out of other books, and I, too, loved it. I love that Holden is so messed up and that there isn't really a plotline to it except for him walking around, doing different things. And the narrators voice is absolutely amazing.

I'm reading it now (started it yesterday) and I already almost cried when Holden was talking to that professor and thinking about how people always get mad at him for not acting his age because I related to that?? So much??

I finished it and yeah, I can add Holden to my 'characters I relate to that others hate' list.
Lookin' at you, Hamlet and Victor Frankenstein

Fucking fight me, my dude. I'm not the one who left the argument because they lacked convincing points.
(Don't worry, I can't hate anyone more than I already hate myself :) )

And it's That Frankenstein Bitch, thank you very much

Says the one who clearly shows a lack of understanding of character depth. I'm not even surprised that you hate Holden. Please, don't read The Cruel Prince either because you'll write Jude off as being a bitch and not see her depth.

Holden complained about everything and didn't do anything

Although from what I remember, I did like the scene where he went to visit Phoebe. But it's been a while. Perhaps I'll reread it and like him more

That's the point. It's about what it's like to be a teenager in a world that only sees you as a child or as an adult, and doesn't realize that you're neither. And he complains a good deal less than some users on this site.
The Phoebe scene was the best scene imo, apparently I'm trash for characters that love and would die for one (1) person

I also feel like the book is weirdly relevant to Gen Z?? Not sure why but like…Holden absolutely would have a Gen Z sense of humor

group
@Pickles group

for sure. now i'm actually tempted to reread it

I need a copy for my new Classics shelf, bc right now it only has Dorian Gray, Jekyll and Hyde, War and Peace, Frankenstein, Dracula, and Gatsby
