Bar in the Middle of Somewhere - Character Chat - Always Open

Felt like making a new chat because I wanted to try new setting + new character.

It’s a bar. One that comes off as old fashioned, but one could find that upon entering the bar, its not exactly normal. The customers of the bar are varied, with many of them human, but some are something more..peculiar. Either way, they all come to the bar for a variety of reasons. Jobs, or just for pleasure. Sometimes for a break on a trip, other times, they just stumble across the bar.
Outside of the bar there’s desert for miles. Rocky, dry and flat conditions, turning freezing at night.

Sure, it’s a big world, but you’re not getting out of the desert anytime soon - on foot, at least. So why not bunker down and visit the bar?

I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.

  1. Blood and violence is fine, but don’t overdo it.
  2. I do allow cussing, but same as above.
  3. Do not powergame other people (by that, I mean, don’t force stuff on them, don’t control their characters, etc.)
  4. Be respectful, dislike the character, not the person!
  5. Please try to have good grammar, at least be understandable!
  6. Yeah no clue what else to put here but this list will change probably.

August Osborn was not your average being. With the upper body of a man, one might consider him normal (minus the facial features, which were covered up), but the rest of him was definitely not. It was hard to describe. Reptilian, maybe? All people knew is that August towered over others with ease, but also had to be cautious of others, for he may risk knocking over or even destroying things with his tail. His multiple legs; six on each side of the body, granted him good control over troublesome terrain, which was useful in this world. One may even consider him to be a centaur of some sorts, but August was much bigger than that, yet - self proclaimed, not even fully grown.

He was a regular at the bar, which currently he’d just arrived at minutes ago. The sun was still high in the sky, his hat that he wore providing him subtle shade, but the rest of the sun beat down on his tangerine orange scales - which he wasn’t that bothered by, honestly. Nights were a bit harder for him, despite him being warm blooded and all that.

In a normal world, you could view August as unusual, and expect to see a lot of odd stares. But for the most part, the only people staring were either;

  1. People who’d never seen one of his kind before
  2. People who wanted to avoid getting trampled.

The outlaw slipped (as smoothly as possible) into the bar, wondering what today would bring for him. Fights were not common at the bar - given, no one really wanted to fight here, but that didn’t mean they didn’t happen. He grabbed his own seat, and with a quick scan around the room, realized that the bar wasn’t seeing that much activity right now. Unusual, but nothing to be bothered by.
Waiting, August began to think what he’d order, if anything.

The door opened with a dramatic bang, revealing a tall man with an eyepatch over his left eye standing in the doorway. He took a few heavy steps into the bar, glancing around quickly. His eye landed on August, but he didn't give him much thought. He walked further into the bar and sat down near August. The man's name was Adrian, and he was not having a good day. He'd gotten stranded in this desert, and had just barely made it to this bar in the middle of nowhere. Seeing as how he had no idea where he was or how to get back, it was clear Adrian would be staying there for a while. Still, it could be worse. He could be surrounded by Queen's Men.

It took only a second for Amafrey Loren to attend to the customer, giving a brush wave to the next person. Flashing a rather toothy smile under her masquerade mask–an elegant thing with swirls coming from the sides, her eyes barely visible except for a very unnatural blue glowing coming from them. "Hey there, handsome, what'cha want? We have draft, a few specialties, and of course, if you're not one to drink, we have a few food options on our menu to your right there." Her thin posture contradicted the charismatic flow of her mood. Idly, Amafrey tries to brush her dark blue hair out of her face with no avail, as her hair was just down to her chin and had nowhere really to go.

Adrian looked up, a few quick glances taking in the person in front of him. "Hello," he said, giving her a smile that didn't quite reach his eye. "Do you have any water?" Although a drink sounded quite tempting, he didn't want to drop his guard until he knew he was relatively safe. He gave the food menu a quick once-over but didn't find anything he wanted at the moment. Maybe later. As Adrian waited for her answer, his fingers drifted towards his throat, where a flat, coin-sized pendant hung from a cord. It was engraved with some sort of symbol, though one couldn't tell exactly what it was from far away. From the way his fingers gently grazed it, it was clear the pendant was important to him.

"Yessir! Anything else?" Amafrey's smile didn't falter when the man acted indifferent towards her. "If you need more time to decide, I can come back later if you prefer."

"No, thank you." Adrian shook his head, hand dropping to the table. He really needed to stop playing with his necklace, but he was constantly worried that he would lose it. Jahtal would kill him if he lost or broke it. Maybe if she had given him a longer cord, it wouldn't have tempted him so much. When he got back, the first thing he would do was get a long chain. And maybe give her some advice for the next person, though that might end up with him losing absurd amounts of blood.

"Alrighty!" Amafrey dashes behind the bar and swiftly gives the man his water. "If you need me, the name's Ammie." She continues on to greet the other customer who seemed to have attracted stared from the few other bartenders.
"Hello there! I'm Ammie, what can I get'cha today?"

August clasps his hands together, intertwining his fingers together. He turns to look down at the woman. Even sitting down - not in a chair, for a Heritogore to sit in a chair was pretty much physically impossible - he still retained height over most beings. Yet despite his imposing stature his eyes, which seemed to be the only visible facial feature on his face, looked friendly as could be.

“Alcohol,” August answers, before moving into his thoughts and returning to add, “something strong, preferably.” He paused, pondering if he wanted something to eat. Sure, he decided, and mentioned what he’d like. “Some meat as well, any type. Thanks in advance.”

Adrian accepted the water and took a sip. His gaze followed Ammie as she walked towards the person near him. This bar had a few strange patrons, but he was used to it. How this place got customers was a mystery to him. Adrian had no idea there was something here, but he was lucky it existed. Without it, he would probably still be wandering the desert, slowly dying of thirst. He took another sip of water, the mention of alcohol suddenly making him want something a little more flavourful.

"Of course! I can prep somethin' up real quick for ya!" Amafrey darts back behind the bar in a quick messily fashion that somehow doesn't send her sprawling. In about ten minutes, she comes back with a large mug of whiskey and a basket of chicken wings, complimented with buffalo, ranch, and blue cheese dips in three separate plastic containers to the side of the wings.
"Does this fit your fancy?" She beams to the colossally sized man.

Azami stumbled into the bar, dripping with sweat. Her black hoodie was tied around her waist, and she was wearing a white tank with a black skull underneath. The woman's blue hair was matted, and even the small bag slung over her shoulder seemed to weigh her down. Despite this, she put on a grin, sitting down at the bar. Azami barely took notice to the establishment's strange patrons.
"Water, please." The woman's stomach growled. "And do you guys have ramen, by any chance?" she added.

August surveys what she’s brought out, and deems it sufficient. “Yes,” he nods. “It will!” He lowers his mask, and right then - it’s made quite clear that August may appear to have the upper body of a human, but his lower facial features are more monster than man, covered in the same tangerine scales as is his reptilian like lower body. His mouth presents large, sharp teeth.
The whiskey is refreshing to him, and thankfully, due to his species’ alcohol tolerance, he won’t really have to worry about getting drunk.

Adrian turned to look at the new person. She looked worse than he had felt the first time he'd walked in. He considered greeting her– she didn't seem to be one of the Queen's Men, and it couldn't hurt to get to know some of the people here. He would have said 'hello' or something to the other person, but he was ever so slightly intimidated by him. And the woman behind the bar had seemed busy.
"Rough day?" Adrian asked, a slight smile on his face.

"Ramen? Of course, ma'am." Ammie began preparing the noodles, looking back up at the woman. "You look rather worse for wear, what happened?" Ammie set a glass of water to the woman's right, scanning the bar for any new customers.

Azami grinned, turning to the woman behind the bar. "Got a bit lost. Who knows where the swordsman's off to now, though." She picked up the glass of water and drained it in seconds. "I'll probably be back with the others in a day or so, though. No big deal."

A tall woman with pastel pink hair tied into a loose ponytail at the nape of her neck walked into the bar, her cream kitten heals clicking on the floor with each step. She hummed a bit as she sat down at the bar, waiting patiently for someone to come over and ask for her order.

At first glance, she looked like a normal human sitting at the bar. If you looked closer, you would see that her hazel eyes seemed to lean more toward red in the lighting, that her hands looked as if they had been digging in red sand and the red had remained on her hands, that her cherry red lips hid sharp teeth.

Ammie smiled. "Of course. Your order should take another five minutes or so, okay?" Without listening for a response, Amafrey moved on to the new customer. "Hello, I'm Ammie. What would you like?" Amafrey's light blue eyes–if small pinpricks behind a darkening masquerade mask counted as eyes–seemed distracted, trying to figure out this woman's intentions.

The woman smiled widely and began to motion with her hands. "Hello, do you know asl? If not I can write my order down." She signed, eyes squinting slightly as she smiled. In all honestly, she didn't look as if she belonged in a bar, she looked like the kind of person who went to posh clubs and ordered small fancy drinks.
