Dunno if it helps, but despite being set in the Harry Potter universe, Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them (I'm talking about the actual book from Newt Scamander here, not the movie) actually has a huge variety of creatures described within its pages, many of them in which are actual mythological animals from folklores of all over the world, besides having JK Rowling's beautiful writing in it. She put quite some thought into it, and it's indeed very informative, so maybe look that up?
