I need to create a magical seafaring mercenary family... James Hook family

In my story, James Hook (if indeed that is his actual last name) comes from a magical seafaring family. He becomes enamored, and subsequently brainwashed and fed lies, about the 'evil' nature god that lives in Purgatory, who has captured and tortured innocent Neverfairies, and uses their tear and fairy dust for his own personal gain, by the fey queen Titania.
Anyway….
What kind of magic should Hook have, if any, that allows him to travel through gateways (usually hidden and only accessible by Pan or his Lost Boys), and go from Earth to Neverland so that he can 'free the fairies and bring them back to Titania'.

Did Titania hire him to do this? If so, she would probably give him some magic item that would allow him to travel to Neverland. Or maybe his ship itself is inherently magical?

MAYBE IT'S MADE OF WOOD FROM A MAGIC TREE and the wood's properties lend them to the ship and traveling and whatnot
