Is there a character type you dislike? Why?

I just personally don't like the reliance on tropes. I get why they're there and every time you run into people who are similar to tropes you're like "wow I expected this" but I also find that real people aren't tropes and so if you want realistic writing you have to cast out most trope writing. I think this thought process comes from a place of being put into a lot of categories and hating it myself so I assume my characters would also be frustrated by this.

I'm going to lay this at the feet of my love of vintage literature, specifically vintage detective novels, but I don't like characters who are constantly like "what are we going to do?! I was shoved into this position and now I don't know what to do!?!" I just feel like they have resources available to them that they don't use, and if I was in a similar position to them, I would manage to acquit myself a bit better. Idk really. Maybe I've just never seen a well-written version of that type of character/don't understand the mindset of such characters.

Oh yeah, those are very annoying!

@PastelTart

I wasn't being a d***. I was just pointing out that's what it sounded like you were saying, in my opinion.

Immidiately jumping to the conclusion that I 'hate every girl in the world' is dickish, so….disagree

I'm sorry. I wasn't trying to be rude okay?

Also the characters who are insanely naive and pure (especially if the other female characters they're surrounded by are shown as 'slutty' or 'bitchy') even when they shouldn't be. Like when a peasant girl in a medieval fantasy is a ball of happiness even though she's lived on the streets with no money for her whole life.

Oh yeah. That one is hard to redeem. My village girl is very practical above everything else.

Mine is very 'I've seen everything and I'm not impressed'

Good type! That’s what my sister is about boys Lol. Or so she says.
