I've been looking a lot into modern age wicca/paganism/magick etc, and wondered how to turn some aspects into a character.
Like, they will be a closeted witch, there's no other 'magic' in the world like elves. It'll be an urban setting.
How can I make them a witch without the steriotype 'crazy human with black bird, rats and 2810281 jars'?
Maybe someone on here practices one of the above, do you have some tips?

Well, first pick an age. Is she around teenage years?
The first stereotype you could break is the ‘black hair pale skin’ one, maybe give her a cultural background have ofwhich worships a pagan religion, and the other half that worships another one (for example, she could be Jewish or Buddhist. Maybe she’s black, maybe she follows the voodoo religion [actual religion btw, not the creepy thing Hollywood turned it into])
Maybe she’s quirky and extroverted, maybe she’s a shy artist, maybe she specializes in tattoos with hidden runes and protection symbols
Give her a normal job
Maybe she’s 16 and works at McDonald’s
Maybe she’s a librarians assistant
Maybe works in a trade and is currently in an apprenticeship
The possibilities are endless
To break the whole cat raven thing, you could just give her no familiar. Or maybe she had a pet dog. A parakeet. Even a bunny
As for modern witch aus and practices I recommend going on Pinterest and looking up ‘modern witch aus’ the stuff there is awesome and v creative, there’s lots of tips and tricks
It would also be interesting to research the pagan religions, look at practices and holidays and deities and stuff
Finally, just look for naturalistic healing methods and practices such as chakras and using different crystals to harness positive energy, and little knot charms
You could literally find heaps of information in one of those little shops on the street with all the gemstones and pendulums and stuff, it’s so interesting

Pinterest really has a lot, but sadly a lot of biased information as well, which is hard to work around haha

Maybe they draw a sygil into the foam of their Starbucks coffee with their straw
Maybe use a concentration charm for studying

Don't have her use a stereotypical wand. Have her canal her make through a baseball bat or crowbar. Have her store her herbs in plastic containers. Have her misplace all her things and have to summon them. Use these Ideas if you want a clumsy witch.
