200% Frank, it's literally his plot! His ability is to read human minds, so since he can't control his power and in order to avoid "knowing things better left unthought of" as he'd say, he escaped to live alone in a forest, since he can't read animal's minds. Now he lives in a semi-abandoned van with a bunch of animals he just kinda found lol. He's actually really wholesome and sweet despite being a nervous wreck around people. Also, he can only read 1 person's mind at a time (maybe 2, if they're both dumb enough), otherwise he has terrible headaches, so living in public was a never-ending migraine.
