So one of my writing projects is steam punk male transports himself into a fantasy world and is treating like a god/wizard for having steam powered machinery and weapons
I'm looking for a name for the guy and maybe some background for him

Your best bet would to run through a few generators and pick a few names you like (http://springhole.net/writing_roleplaying_randomators/victoriannames.htm and http://springhole.net/writing_roleplaying_randomators/30s-40s-names.htm come to mind, but any realistic name generator would do in a pinch).
As for his background, what sort of steampunk are you going for? What did he do before he was transported - watchmaker, soldier, tinker, etc? How much did he bring with him, and what sort of weaponry does he have? Does it interfere with the magic system the fantasy world has, or would it be enhanced by it? (Where does he get all that coal to run them lmao)
ok so he's a warrior/ tinkerer in the sense where he has "steampunky" guns and like claw arms but he knows how to fight
and with the magic system think like the anime "gate" where there's magic but everybody thinks what he has is also blessed by the gods
one other thing the guy completely owns that everybody thinks he's a wizard and just like laughs triumphantly in front of everybody
(also to answer the coal problem he just digs or steals it lol)
Okay so you mention that he has claw arms - which, super cool for one, but are they detachable? Or do they completely replace his regular arms - is he missing them, maybe? Does he repair them himself - if so, who taught him, or was it more by trial and error? Does he have to get someone outside of himself to repair them if they get broken? What are they made of? Does he also repair his own guns - do they malfunction on him?
(I'm not familiar with the anime, but I think I've seen like, the first couple minutes of the first episode?) What else do people think of him? Do some believe that he's cursed instead?
I do love that everyone thinks he's a wizard - that obviously explains the superior tech, right? /s
Does he play it up and spout off random nonsense to explain what he does? Overall I think you've got a pretty decent character concept so far, though!
Ok so I'm going with Rowan Corius,Rowan has one steam arm and a regular one. He is known as genius in his home so he decided to make something that allowed him to escape his fans. these were spider like arms each going a diagonal direction
Rowan was wandering the world of Tinktria (Steam punk universe)
As he was wondering he fell down hole because he has no awareness of his surroundings
This was a portal to a fantasy realm (no name yet)
His weapons are self repair and made of iron brass and steel, these were materials rarely used for anything other than weapons so many were amazed.
Oh yeah he completely bullshits everything when someone other than an alchemist or engineer asks him what his machines are
