They’re really good!! The back story is very fleshed out, and the only question I have is why and how did Dakota learn to read lips, I.e. is Dakota hard of hearing, losing hearing, etc.
It is Nonbinary/Female. I don't quite get this, do you mean they're a Demigirl, Bigender, or AFAB? You might want to elaborate on their gender a bit.

When they became depressed, they kinda would space out and not really hear what people were saying to them. To combat this, they just started to look at their lips and learned from there!
