And all the males serve the plot and are not there for the girl. (One actually turns the protagonist down.)
What type of female characters would you like to see more of in a story?
I have something I would love to add to this topic! although this one isn't so much about seeing more of a certain type of chick..
Number 1.
I low key HATE IT when a Male hero refugees to fight the Female villain for her gender! (Or at least say's something prior to a fight like, "I don't fight girls" or "I wont hit a lady"). Like Bruh, she gonna kill you in 0.2 seconds flat if you don't, pick up your weapon and fight. Battle, regardless of what gender she is. ヽ(ಠ_ಠ)ノ
Personally, I love it when a diminutive and shy, Male hero doesn't have any qualms with having a Female arch rival. Nothing remotely sexual, just pure hatred for one another, which I think, makes it more satisfying when he wins, particularly if she's bitchy and has destroyed his life up to this point.
It can go like:
Girl: "Why don't you come over here and show me what your made of, you nobody. You goddamn failure in life!"
Side-Kicks girl in the stomach
Boy: "HA! that's what you get for talking S*it about me behind everyone back! YA Biatch!"
Number 2:
Can we just address when a female hero will go up against a male villain, and then after taking him down, will say something like "Girl's can fight too y'know".
RAGE INCREASED(┛◉Д◉)┛彡┻━┻
Honey. No one is thinking about the fact your a girl. No one cares!!!! When a character does something like this, I just loose all respect for them immediately.
Number 3:
This is sorta going off Number 2 and 1, but I also just don't like it when, in fight scenes, Male characters will go up against males, and Female's on Females. ITS A BATTLE! NOTHING HAS TO BE GENDER SEGREGATED!
Number 4:……. Last one I promise……
Why is it that all girl characters, learn their fighting skills from their brothers, or some other male figure. I just want to one time, hear one chick say something like…
Tough Girl: "Yeah I know how to fight. I got three brothers"
Random Character: "Really?"
Tough Girl: "Yeah, Billy is the Chess captain at school, Steve is majoring in Robotics with his boyfriend, and Jonah is practising Ballet. So I took the liberty of training myself to fight, so I could fight their bullies when they would get beat up." <—– Where is THAT CHICK?
Sorry if this was all rambling. Hope you liked this post and comment if you agree or disagree!

Well it kind of depends. Women are weaker than men statistically, so it's more biology than sexism when a guy says "I won't fight girls" etc. But if there is to be a badass warrior woman, she should be bulky with muscles, not the sexy one who has absolutely no body fat and all of that crap.
@The-Althalosian Ikr XD. And what is it with female armour anyway? Like, you mean to tell me that a man will go into battle wearing awesome, full plated armour, but a woman has to wear a goddamn bikini? WHY!?! how the hell do you come out of battle's without a scar on your body. I know to that question, writers or story creators will say something like "Oh, but she's so well trained, she can't get hit." WELL SHE MUST BE PRETTY FU*KEN AMAZING IF SHE CAN CHARGE HEAD ON INTO A BATTLE AND COME OUT WITHOUT A SINGLE STABWOUND! Well trained or not, realistically she should have some sort of damage on her.

This thing right here is pure gold ^
I swear i hate every single darn moment i see a girl on the battle field in what could be called "a glorified bathing suit". THAT IS NOT HOW ARMOR WORKS. It's mostly fanservice BS but i'll be damned if it doesn't trigger me. And even if she was good enough to get out of a fight without a wound, what about weather? Dont tell me she's so cool she cant feel the cold or heat. At least wear some normal clothing if you're so good you dont need armor.
YES PREACH

My lady knight does have ridiculous armor, but it's ridiculous because it's gold (so not very strong). It's full body though, and she and her gf work in remaking strong armor and painting it gold so it works better.
So is it gold or gold plated?
group
Gold, but her and her gf make new armor that is gold plated.
Why the heck did she wear gold armor?
group
Because the tyrannical queen forces her to because she knows that the character is a threat to her and wants her killed/improperly prepared in case of a fight.
Oh. I like that reason.

sweet ditsy idiots who always win fights cuz its a fluke. like, when a female character is fighting and its supposed to be a super important one and like,,, she's just so stupid. and your just screaming what the hell shes doing and she manages to win???? because like a rock fell from a super high cliff and hit the antagonist in the head or something close to how peridot won the fight with jasper from steven universe lmfao
Female characters who act like badasses and ARE badasses who don't need some guy to save them. Female characters who are TALLER than the males, not a foot shorter.
Female characters who DON'T have to feud with every other female character because they're ALL after the same dude.
Female characters who DON'T fall in love with their savior, but instead loathe them for their cocky behavior.
Female characters who AREN'T gay just because of their masculine appearance.
group
Yeet I have a lot of tall girls.
In one story, all of the girls except one are the same height or very close to the same height (a few inches either way) of their love interests. Just because the fae tend to be tall.
I have only one or two tall girls. But that's because biology.
group
Most adult Fae are around 6 feet tall, so Esther, Poplar, Clove, and Alys are all 6 feet.
Vivian, Giana, and Ophelia are around 5'9"-5'11"
Maia and Trinity are short, like 5'1" and 5'4", respectively

This is a really hard topic honestly. I've always had trouble writing female characters, and I have no idea why, you know, since I'm a woman myself.
I don't really think you can write your character "as a person first," because gender really does heavily shape who you are, and a lot of characters really don't seem to translate well if you swap their gender. Sure, you might be able to pick a few traits and then make a character out of them later, but I almost always picture the person first, then choose a personality after, so that doesn't work very well.
As far as female characters I want to see more of? Soft and sweet, but when she opens her mouth to speak, she's ridiculously smart- I don't mean your regular old bookworm. I mean she's out here solving problems and always ready to be the brains of the group. I want more women portrayed as being interested in male-dominated fields (because there are still women who are scientists and mathematicians and doctors, but they get ignored a lot, or the male character gets that kind of occupation instead, while the woman is like a photographer or a writer or something more arts/humanities related). Point is, I grew up without any woman role models in my field of study, fictional or real life. We need those.
Complex and flawed ones. Being a strong female character doesn't mean that you have to never show emotion! Give them an interesting personality that a reader can fall in love with. Oh! And we need LGBTQ female character as well.
Oh! And we need LGBTQ female character as well.
Honestly? Yeah. I've only read like, maybe 7 books with LGBT+ characters and of those seven only one had a female LGBT character. It's nice to see some diversity, but at LGBT+ girls also exist.
at the same time though, for the amount of books that I read, seven is really not a lot.
Yea, I have a lot of LGBT+ frens and I love seeing diversity in novels!
I have nothing against LGBTQ+ characters, but for as many people in real life are actually gay I don't think they're all that underrepresented.
Depends on the school environment, I guess, but just saying if you put one in your story, don't like make them a cliche or anything. Ya know.
I don't just mean school environments. I mean generally in the world. But I suppose it can matter on you area
I read a lot of comic books and I feel like LGBTQ+ people are almost overrepresented in them
Thanks Lol.

I've read a few more but not a lot, and I actively seek out books with LGBTQA+ girls in them.
Off the top of my head I can think of Let's Talk About Love, Radio Silence, Six of Crows, etc. but not a lot outside of YA especially

One thing is that wlw don't really have a Simon Versus like mlm people do. The closest I can think of is The Miseducation of Cameron Post which isn't exactly a cheerful read. I know Becky Albertelli tried with Leah On The Offbeat but from the reviews I've read it's not a super great book so idk
