For my NaNoWriMo project, I'm doing an Alice in Wonderland fractured fairy tale (which some of you probably know just cause I come and talk about it a lot lol)
but Alice is selected as the Queen of Hearts after the previous one gets overthrown
But
WHY
I'm doing a list of 30 bad ideas
hoping one of them will be good
but right now I only have two and one of them is "there's a prophecy! She's the chosen one!" which is just super lame
so
help me out?
Why on earth (or in wonderland) would a 14 year old girl be chosen as queen?
Does Alice help overthrow the previous one? If so, she might be chosen because she defeated the one before her… idk that’s a bad idea
Yes, but she's not the one who actually kills Helena (the previous one)
Jack is, and he also wants to be queen… or…. king. Whatever. But he gets pushed aside

Okay when I was in Through the Looking Glass, she completed the chessboard and became queen, but then gave up her throne when she realized how much responsibilty it would be (and I got to solo in a gospel hymn!!)

but they love alice and she seems a pretty good alternative to the queen of hearts

Okay. Maybe she becomes Queen through popular vote? Elected Queen like Padme Amidala?
I'm just gonna go with "she has the necessary qualifications" and while she was technically elected, she was the only candidate because the other candidate went to go see his sister

That is a good point. All you really have to do is convince the reader, and leave no room for any other options.

Like so much nonsensical stuff happens in the book, in Through The Looking Glass Alice has to walk the opposite direction of the one she wants to go to get to her destination
It could literally be something like she accidentally trips and lands on a particular cobblestone or whatever and everyone’s like “omg the sacred stone” and she’s dubbed queen
Or whatever
