Creator: What is your family like Halinya?
Hal: What's a family? Is it some sort of tool?
Creator: No it people who care about you and love you
Hal: What's love?
Creator: It's where someone will care about you unconditionally and put you before themselves even going so far as to sacrifice themselves for your love.
Hal: Their are people who are capable of that?!?!?!?!?!
Creator: Um, yes
Hal: Wish I knew what those things felt like.
Creator: Hal are you okay?
Hal: Anyway I have to go now or the Lord and lady with get mad
Creator: wait Hal!
Hal: what?
Creator: I'm sorry
Hal: For what?
Creator: everything
Hal: Its okay I'm used to this sort of thing. it's a shame I'm not human anymore, but if you sorry for my situation than come and kill me my body wont let me die.

My characters are Giselle, Aster, Cassy and Hester. I ask them what their family is like and these are their responses
Giselle: * hisses through her teeth * yeah, my legal Mother is a total bitch. My legal Father is totally too in love with her to really consider things from my side. Ever since I was 18, I've been arguing with them and realised how much I don't connect with them. I'm adopted, and my Mother dumped this on me on my 18th birthday and then expected things to never change so I don't like to respond to her anymore. I have a better family now, my friends and my bf. And his mum! She's almost literally adopted me. I think she actually would, except for a) that would make me my boyfriend's adopted sister, ew and b) we don't think I can be adopted legally twice. So I'm just her daughter figure

Aster: Ooh, my mum is lovely! She's kind of the mum to all my friends too because she's so kind and loving. I'm so much taller than her now but that doesn't change much. I love hugging her and she always makes me food, plenty of it since I have a big appetite. She always makes enough for me to eat my fill and for everyone else. My father has passed away but I can still feel him in our house, keeping my mum safe.

Cass: Um…. I don't really speak to them much anymore. They didn't want me to do anything except what they wanted and they didn't understand how much I liked school and wanted me to focus entirely on them and I didn't want to do that anymore. So I left them but I'm much happier now with my bf and friends!

Hester: Yeah, my mum is cool. She's very hardworking and only wants me to be happy. I love her so much, dude.

Kitty: "My family?" She is thinking for a moment "Well…. Can't really say. I don't remember anyone other than my brother, Thackery. He's pretty cool though."

Thackery (older brother): In a quiet, blank tone. "….we don't talk about our family…"

Steph: "My family consists of my dad, who divorced my mom so he could go back to his interdimensional dragon world queen and also got kidnapped by my older half-sister, who is a confirmed psycho with serious daddy issues, my mom who has a bit of an issue with anything that is slightly unhealthier than a baguette, I have a big sister who is basically the epitome of teenage sulk, and my little sister is a spoilt brat who calls her favorite Barbie Pretty-face. In other words, my family equals a mess.”
Lira (has anger issues, and besides, has some family trauma she doesn’t like talking about): "It’s none of your business. Go look at your own family life. Or touch some grass. Or actually do something useful for once."
Hailey (optimist): "My dad’s got a happy life with my step-mom, who bakes really awesome cookies, my mom is really fiery, but can also be pretty warm and nice when she shows that she loves me, my half-siblings can be… a bit impolite, but I got abducted into a whole different universe before most of them were born, so I think that’s why. I hope that’s why. My other half-siblings, the ones that aren’t my dad’s kids, are alright, though I think of them as my friends mostly.
Thaloria: “I would say it’s because my mom died I’m a sadistic overlord who uses the trauma left from her mother’s death as an excuse for what she does, but then I remember I killed my mom. So that probably isn’t going to be a good excuse.”
(just for fun) Faith: My family? HMMMM…. Creaky old lady noises ensue as she tries to remember… takes a deep breath. (insert a whole prophecy about the fate of your own family and the demises that would accumulate like books in a library.) Now, where was I?

Gwen: Marigold! I’ll answer all of our parents sucked real bad, In Eros there are child taking rules for “character building” so most people are grumpy and traumatized and that get passed down.
Ellen: Pssshhh don’t listen to Gwen it’s so much simpler than that laughs Parents= bad so people= sad

Ezra: “my dad deserves to go to hell. my mom is already in heaven.”

Iggy: “mom and dad have such a strange relationship! both of them are such big business people that they hardly see each other, but they can’t even do that right! they scream at each other, accusing each other of cheating on each other and all this other crap. really, the only reason they haven’t gone their separate ways is because they’d have to spend more time with each other to do it.”

Jac: ”do you know why i’m sitting in a wheelchair?”

Paige: “when i was little, my father was diagnosed with cancer. he went through treatment for a while, and it took a toll on his body. mom served him divorce papers on his hospital bed because she didn’t want to be married to a “pathetic shell of a man." the treatments weren’t even enough to save him.”
