I like to use one or several of the following:
-what they look like/a prominent feature of theirs
-what they do
-where they live
-a person/company important to the discoverer or discovery
-whatever randomly comes to mind
(Looking into scientific naming really takes a lot of pressure about finding the "right" name away lol.) Then appropriately translate into your local language if applicable (I usually skip that though)

I like to put a feature or something into a different language. Like if it has wings, you can name it Volantes. (Itβs Latin for flying)
