She had already gripped the handle of the seat, bracing herself for nothing. "I hate that so much." She muttered under her breath, loosening up her grip. "So much I hate that."
Act Your Age // 3/3 // CLOSED (DC villain next-gen)
"Haha, yeah. But you get used to it," She said, bringing the car to a stop. She began tom climb out, honking her horn to let them know she'd arrived. "Now, if it's not too much to ask, please behave."
"What do you take me for?" She asked with a slight smirk, stepping out of the car. "A trickster?" She hummed, sliding the deck of cards from her pocket. "Because I prefer the term con artist."
Clem rolled her eyes as she locked the car, walking in the direction that she knew would take her to the actual Batcave. She'd brought her mallet with her out of her car, wanting a weapon in case things went sour - not that they would.
"What's that about? You worried I'm going to pummel someone?" She asked jokingly, shuffling the card deck.
"You never know when things will go sour. I might be Jason's girlfriend but things can still go wrong."
"True," She snickered, smiling. Half skipping, she felt her sanity slowly slipping, and she grew unsteady. "Catch me if I knock myself out."
"You won't," She smiled back, though she wasn't confident in her answer. "Hey Batsy!" She yelled out as she entered the main section of the Batcave. Batman, Robin, Red Robin, Red Hood and Nightwing turned to look. She gave a small, thankful smile towards Red Hood - he'd enlisted everyone just to help her find her sister. The five of them unmasked themselves, and Clem was glad to see Jason with his little tuft of white in his hair.
Keeping herself upright, she dropped her smile, and walked with confidence over to the group. "Should we wait for Vi?" She asked under her breath as they came up to the group. Her frown stayed on her lips, as if she was determined to show she didn't like being here.
Clem walked over to Jason and pulled him to the side a little. "Thanks for getting everyone to help. Lucy's really important to mum and I don't know what would happen if she died."
"It's fine. Your dad might have literally killed me but I'm always gonna be there for you. Your dad doesn't affect my relationship with you."
"Thanks Jason." She stood up on her tip-toes slightly to kiss his cheek, her heels already rendering her almost tall enough.
Ember watched the two interact, and a simple smile slid onto her lips. She was happy with him, clearly. But she dropped her smile quickly, as if not to show weakness. "You should introduce me to your boyfriend, I haven't met him before." She hummed bumping her elbow on Clem.
"Oh, right. Ember, this is Jason. Jason, this is Ember. She's Riddler's kid." Then Clem turned to look at the others. "That's Dick, Tim and Damian. And of course there's Bruce, but you already knew him."
"Pleasure to meet you," She nodded slightly, holding her hand out to shake Jason's. Leaning over to Clem, she smirked slightly. "He's cuter than you said he was."
Jason shook Ember's hand, and a very slight blush crept over his cheeks at her remark. Then Clem turned to Bruce.
"I do just want to thank you for helping. You didn't have to but you are."
Smirking, Ember turned around to face Bruce with a slight grimace. Her face looked annoyed, but she was trying so hard not to keep it that way. There had been some stiffness between the two, and she couldn't help not being cold to him.
"I'm doing it for Jason," Bruce said sternly, and a glare crossed Clem's face.
"Of course you are. God, if it wasn't for him you'd never even associate with me. All you see is the Joker's daughter. Never mind the fact that I've made a name for myself away from my dad. That my mother is a world-renowned scientist actually fucking reforming in Arkham for the sake of her daughter! The daughter who's gonna die at the hands of my father if you don't fucking do anything about it!"
That was the Joker side of Clem showing through. She hated it, and her 'Joker episodes' were what often led to an out pour of her magic. Jason took her hand and squeezed it, trying to help her calm down.
Ember turned to face her friend, pressing her shoulder to Clem's. "Look, I don't like him at all, and I know you're not too happy." She whispered, glancing over at Jason. "But we need you to relax, someone's going to get hurt if you don't chill." Ember said in a tone that was meant to be sincere. "For me, for Jason, and for Lucy."
Clem took deep breaths as her eyes glowed a soft purple, a sign of her calming herself down with her own magic. "Look, I don't care who you do this for. Me, Jason, Lucy: it doesn't matter. What matters is that you're helping me, whether it's your intention or not." Her eyes glowed a deeper purple - the shade that showed that she was using her powers on others. "Because at the end of the day, I can be so much worse than my father. He can fuck with your life but I can fuck with your mind. Even more so Crane. So you really do not want to fuck with me."
“Clem.” Ember said under her breath, rather firmly. “Come on, be the bigger person.” She whispered, taking her friend’s hand in her own.
"I am being the bigger person. You know why? Because the person I'm against is already low."
"Leave it alone, Clementine. Don't make me regret helping you."
"Those are fighting words, Brucey-Boy."
Ember gave her a look, and then glanced over to Jason. She wasn't sure what more she could do, and hoped he would be able to intervene in the conversation at hand. "Do something." She mouthed to him, glancing at Clem in between them.
Clem took a step closer to Bruce, who stayed in the same place. Even with her heels he was a good foot taller than her. "I get why everyone hates y-" She was cut short by Jason taking a step forward and picking her up. At first she was surprised, then gave into Jason. She held up her middle finger to Bruce, then crossed her arms as she stayed in Jason's arms.
Ember sighed, rubbing her face. "Why are you like this?" She groaned, rubbing her temple. Her head hurt, and she didn't know what to do with her friend. "What are we needing to do here?"
"What we need to do is calm down," Dick spoke up. "I understand that there is…tension between us. But right now we need to put that away and focus on helping Clem's sister. That's our job. We'd do it if it was some random kid, so it's no different just because it's Joker's kid."
'I thought we already established that.' Her thoughts muttered, and she resisted the urge to role her eyes. Crossing her arms over her chest instead, she kept a no-nonsense kind of expression on her face. "Then that's up to Bruce and Clem here, and I think that Clem already relaxed."
Clem continued to glare at Bruce, and Jason refused to let her go. Her eyes glowed a threatening dark purple, like she was daring Bruce to fuck with her. He stared back, eventually giving up. "Fine. Both of you are right. We need to help Clem's sister."
"Her name is Lucy."
(highkey think the other person is dead, ngl)
Ember had given up at this point, not bothering to help her friend. If Bruce kept acting like she was something the reckon with, she wasn't going to stop Clem in taking him down. When she was mad, there was no one she would listen to. "We need to sort out how we do this, so if you kids don't stop fighting, we'll never get Lucy back."
(I dunno what happened to them…)
The glow in Clem's eyes softened to a light purple, and she took deep breaths. She tapped Jason on the shoulder softly. "I'm fine now. You can put my down." He reluctantly did so, and Clem's feet were on the ground again. She grabbed her mallet and dragged it along the ground a little, before staying in one spot. She looked at Bruce directly in the eyes, saying nothing.
