My idea is that Achlys and her minions (does she have any minions?) are intent on spreading misery across the earth. to do this, they need to destroy the gods. especially the god of hope - Spes. A prophecy is spoke, and Spes then appears to the demigods in question in their dreams, encouraging them to do the quest. and then stuff happens on the quest that we can come up with as we go along!
