Rantaro approached Kokichi after a moment. He had no idea what he was doing there, standing outside of his favorite restaurant alone, but he was worried. Being Kokichi's best friend, he knew that something was wrong, and he had to do something.
"Hey, what happened?" he asked softly. "Why are you so upset?"
“ because I'm a horrible person, anything else?”
Rantaro shook his head at the other's comment. He didn't understand why he was calling himself a bad person, as it didn't make any sense. Nothing implied that he had done anything wrong, although no one else was around, so if there was a fight, then the other person would have left Kokichi alone. He just hoped that the other was okay.
"Why are you saying that about yourself?" he asked. "What happened?"
“I pushed gonta away, I made him angry.. “
Rantaro titled his head in confusion. It didn't make sense that he could have made someone like Gonta angry. He was one of the calmest and most accepting people in the school, and the explanation didn't make sense. Gonta was always trying to be close to people, so it would've been incredibly difficult to push him away.
"What did you do to push him away and upset him?" he asked softly. "What happened between you two?"
“Just go ask him.. Leave me alone..”
Rantaro shook his head. "Kokichi, I have no idea where he is, and I want you to talk to me," he sighed softly. "What's wrong?"
“I- I'm getting cheated on and nothing seems to go right. “ he paused, whipping his tears “ It's lonely walking down this, road
Fake friends that I didn't have to, know. The same ones that fucked me over and whenever I need them
And I turn around they just turn ghost. I feel I'm at an all-time low
I am depressed and it hurts me to know”
My ex is happy and I can't seem to cope.She's ignoring every text message I wrote. My anxiety is high, my medication is low
I am so stressed and I hate being home. I sit and overthink everything alone. I wish I had somebody to hold, damn”
He took a moment to rephrase his words
“I'm sick and tired of putting up a front, Like I'm happy but really I'm in a slump. I try to stay strong, screaming I don't give a fuck!"
Rantaro had absolutely no words for a moment as he wrapped Kokichi in a tight hug. He hadn't expected a response like that, but he was concerned upon hearing it. The words were genuine, and it hurt him to think that one of his friends could feel that way about himself.
"Well, one, fuck your ex, honestly," he responded. "As for the situation with Gonta, I'm sure that he'll forgive you. He's Gonta, for crying out loud! I don't even think he knows how to stay angry with someone. I still don't know what you said to him to get him to run off, but chances are that it was just a misunderstanding. If you know where he went, I'll text Shu. Then he can help, and then we'll get you two back to each other to work it out."
“Yeah.. “ he said softly, trying to get out of the hug. Kokichi wasn't one for physical touch, even though he was touch starved
Rantaro sighed softly and let Kokichi out of the hug. "Okay, so, where did he go?" he asked. "I'll tell Shu where he is so we can work on this together…"
“I'm sure he probably went back to his dorm..”
Rantaro nodded as he grabbed his phone and texted Shuichi. "Well, Shu should be around the dorms, anyway. He had stuff to do, or he'd be with me. He'll work things out with Gonta."
“Oky..” he said softly
"Are you gonna be alright?" he asked. "I'm not gonna leave you alone. Gonta will be fine, but I need to make sure that you're okay."
“I'm fin..” he said and smiledb
Rantaro nodded. "Alright. Let's meet up at the dorms with the others, okay? Surely Shuichi will have calmed Gonta by then…"
“Okay..” kokichi said and got up, wiping his eyes
Rantaro led Kokichi back to the dorms, talking to him along the way. He just hoped that Shuichi had worked things out with Gonta. He didn't want to see two of his friends stay mad at each other.
Kokichi hung his head the whole time, clearly upset still
Rantaro sighed softly. "He's not mad at you… I can tell you that for sure. It's alright…"
“ How are you so sure? I know he's angry with me..”
"Kokichi, I already told you that Gonta isn't the kind to stay mad at someone… He's surely forgiven you by now…"
“ okay..”
"Well, we've arrived at his dorm, so let's head inside."
“ okay,” he said and walked inside
Gonta looked at Kokichi as soon as he heard the door open. "Kokichi?" he asked softly. He hadn't expected to see him.
Kokichi nodded, wiping his eyes “gonta?
"You're not still mad at Gonta, are you…?" he asked softly. "Gonta is so sorry for earlier…"
“I was never mad gonta.. I thought you were mad at me..”
