William turned his attention to Kami. He chuckled when he saw how big Kami’s eyes had gotten when she spotted the weapons. He glanced at Ember quickly, seeing that she was smiling.

“How may I help you, ladies?” William asked. “Are you looking for a specific weapon?”

"Well, I need a bastard sword for my Papa. It has to be a bastard sword. He doesn't want anything else. And I'm in the need for a new battle axe."

language

William nodded thoughtly. "Hm. Let me go check the back. I remember seeing a bastard sword there." "A battle axe and a bastard sword, got it," the boy said as he disappeared to the back.

Kami looked at Ember. "This is so cool! They have so much variety! I can't wait to see what that guy brings us. How much do you think it might be?"

language

“Yep! A lot of variety.” She hummed in thought. “Honestly, I’m not sure. It’s been a long time since I’ve came to this stand, so the prices may have gone up a little. It also depends on the types of weapon the person wants.”

"I accidentally broke my other battle axe. Well, Dad broke it. I got really angry at him." She suddenly had an idea. A small fire portal appeared in front of her and she stuck her head in.

language

Ember looked at Kami curiously. “What are you doing, Kam?” Ember asked as she approached Kami. “Are you going to pull a prank on your dad or something?”

Kami shoved her arms through the portal, then came back. She had a large bag full of Mewni currency in her hands. "I told Dad where we were and that I was gonna replace the battle axe he broke. Convinced him to pay for it. I'm probably gonna have leftovers too."

language

Embers eyes widened when she saw the bag and then she broke into a grin. “Damn. That’s a lot of money. How in the world did you convince your dad to pay for it?” She looked back at the bag. “Yeah, you’re probably going to have leftovers.”

"Well, I got that battle axe from Gramma Lucitor when I was like 3, and it was my favourite thing ever. It's always been my prized possession and he just broke it one day. So I guilt-tripped him into paying for a new one."

language

Ember chucked and smiled. “That was a smart move, Kami. Guilt-tripping your dad into paying for a new one. Smart indeed.”
The boy returned from the back holding two weapons. One was a bastard sword and the other was battle axe. He put them both on the counter.

Kami's eyes lit up in excitement. She ran her hands over the weapons, her fingers examining every single detail. "They're perfect! How much would they be?"

language

The boy looked at the weapons for a minute, doing the math in his head before responding. “350 in total.”
Now that Ember thought about it, 350 was a reasonable price for these weapons. She knew that other weapon stands would overprice everything just so they could get more money,

"It's a good thing I guilt-tripped Dad then, huh?" Kami remarked, digging in the money bag for the right coins. She pulled them out. "That's 350 right? I'm not well-versed in Mewni currency. We have different money in the Underworld."

language

The boy looked at the coins and nodded. He then took them. “Yes, that’s 350. Is there anything else I can help you two with or is that all?”
“No. That’s all. Thank you, William.” Ember replied.

"Do you have any hilts I can borrow?" Kami asked, putting the money bag away. "I'm not going home for a while and these are bulky."

language

Nothing was said for a couple of minutes. Until he broke the scilence. "Hm. I'm not sure. I'll have to check," The boy said.

(I'm assuming Kami is talking to William.)

(oh yes)

"That's fine, I was just asking." She watched William disappear into the back. "It's fine if you don't!" She called after him. "I can survive!"

language

Ember chuckled. She found this amusing. She really did. "You'll survive alright, but not before you complain at least a little." She paused and continued. "In this world of goldfish, people really do surprise me."

Kami shrunk into herself a little. Ember knew her way too well. "Well, yeah. Of course I'd complain. Weapons are heavy, Ember. I might be strong but still not that strong."

language

Ember nodded. Of course, nobody in the world would be that strong. It was just impossible. William returned a few minutes later with a hilt in his hand. He put it on the counter. “There you go. I was able to find one.”

"Thank you! This is actually good quality." She put the hilt on her hip, sticking the bastard sword in it. "The axe is heavier, but the bastard sword is for Papa. So I'll keep it safe."

language

William smiled. “You’re welcome, Miss.” He said goodbye to the girls and once again disappeared. Ember smiled slightly and looked around looking for stand her stand she could take Kami to.

Kami smiled widely. "Well. I have actually gotten pretty much all that I came for." She looked around, tail grabbing hold of the axe. "So…how 'bout you lead the way?"

language

Ember nodded and walked down the dirt path. “So, do you want to go to other stands or do you want me to give you a quick tour of the town?” Ember asked as her feet kicked some dirt.

Kami stopped to think about it. "Tour please! I've always wanted to have a proper look at Mewni but…well…you know. Not many people like demons even though they've accepted monsters."

language

“Ah, good choice.” She paused and turned around, giving Kami a smile. “Yeah. It’s just. . . irritating. They’ve accepted monsters, but not many people have accepted demons. I just find it unfair.” She turned back around and continued walking and bit her lip, drawing a bit of blood.

"We're not too different, either. I mean, just because I have horns and a tail, and three eyes. Why does that make me any different? And it seems that people hate me more because I'm half human too."

language

"People have and will always be like that. They're discriminating you just because the way you look, and honestly, that's just fucked up." She continued down the road. "If you look to your right, you will see a make-shift sign with the words forest of certain death. It's. . .highly infamous for being extremely dangerous to go into. Apparently, my mom, your papa, and his family wandered into the forest one time."

"Like yes, I understand that I could wipe out your village in mere minutes with my fire, but I'm not gonna do that. Because that's not right." She paused while Ember continued talking. "Oh yeah, they told me about that. It's interesting? From their stories, at least."
