"It's sort of a family tradition, I guess? My grandparents are Pokémon breeders, and their parents before that. My mom was sort of an outlier as a baker, but I want to continue the tradition," she answered, brushing over the topic of her mother fairly quickly. "A kahuna? That's awesome! Does that mean you're thinking of challenging the League? When I was a kid, I really wanted to become Champion. But now that I've started my journey, I'm beginning to see it might be a little more difficult than I was originally expecting… My partner doesn't seem to like me all that much, and my other pokémon seems indifferent, still. Like, sometimes he'll listen, you know what I mean?" She sighed, tucking a strand of her messy hair behind her ear before speaking again. "I just haven't found a way to earn their trust, yet."

((Nami's gonna Older Sibling Friend him so hard omg. She's not the mom friend type, more the type to drag her friends on crazy and dangerous adventures and activities))
(Yes please do he needs a friend lmao)
"Yeah, I'm gonna challenge the League. And I'm gonna win, too." Nami grinned, straightening proudly. "You've got issues with your Pokemon?" She tilted her head, her mismatched eyes already showing that she was plotting. "Any chance you'd let me take a look? I might be able to give you some advice, though I can't promise it'd be good."
(Lucas is great! Sorry I didn't respond before my last reply, but I hadn't refreshed the page. Anyways, if you want to have him wander in, that's totally fine. Also, just a little side note—I really want to give him a hug!)

A boy suddenly flew in on a Pidgeot, holding a fainted Fennekin carefully with one arm. He quickly put the Pidgeot back in its Pokeball and ran into the Pokecenter, now holding the Fennekin with both arms. "Nurse joy! H-He's hurt! Can you help him?" He showed the pokemon to the nurse. It had several scrapes on it, seemingly having lost a battle to a much larger pokemon.
"You know, I believe you!" Donnie told her, secretly admiring her confidence. "Maybe someday I'll challenge you!" At her offer, Donnie's eyes lit up with gratitude. "And that would be great! Honestly, anything helps," she admitted, already reaching for her pocket to retrieve the two. Two flashes of light later, a Riolu and Froakie sat on the counter, looking mildly confused and, in Riolu's case, disinterested. "Nami, meet Riolu and Froakie! Riolu, please be nice," she pleaded, noticing the creature's now-crossed arms. At the sudden commotion she stumbled back out of the way, making room for the boy and his injured Pokémon. "Oh dear," she mumbled worriedly to herself, half-ready to approach him.
Nami was already one step ahead of her, brows furrowed as she approached the boy. "Woah, what happened here?" She asked, looking form the Pokemon to the boy in concern and curiosity.
Nurse Joy took the Fennekin gently and lay it on the counter. Lucas hesitantly handed her its Pokeball. He hated cooping it up like that, but he knew it was the most efficient way to heal the pokemon. After about ten seconds of anxious waiting, Nurse Joy returned the Pokeball. Lucas released Fennekin immediately, who jumped into his arms happily. "Fennekin! Thank god you're okay…" He hugged the pokemon. "Thank you, miss Joy." He turned to the girl who had approached him. "Oh! H-He just… got into a fight with an angry Ursaring."
"An Ursaring?" Donnie was, unfortunately, quite familiar with those. They were common near her father's house, and she'd often spot them at a distance. "Wow… Well, I'm glad your Fennekin is okay! I'll admit—I wasn't expecting to see anyone so soon into my journey with another Kalos region starter!"
Lucas smiled softly, petting the Fennekin as he looked at Donnie. "Yeah… Fennekin thinks he's bigger than he is, honestly." He was quiet for a moment. "Oh, how rude of me! My name is Lucas. What's yours?" Fennekin yipped cheerfully, rubbing his head against Lucas's chin. It was clear that the bond between them was very strong.
"Heh, understandable," Donnie responded, eyeing the Fennekin's soft fur. "My name's Donnie! This is Riolu and Froakie," she paused, looking at Nami. "And this is Nami, whom I just met a few minutes ago!" She tried not to show how envious she was of the relationship between the two.
Nami gave Lucas a two fingered salute followed by the gesture of greeting, eyes flickering back to Donnie's Pokemon as she tilted her head. "Alola. It's nice to meet you, Lucas."
"You have a Riolu?" Lucas asked curiously, setting the Fennekin on his shoulder. "They're quite rare… where did you find it?" Fennekin watched Donnie, cocking his head to the side and wagging his tail gently. He hopped over to Lucas's other shoulder to sniff Nami. "Hello, as well." He waved to Nami. "I apologize if Fennekin is bothering you. I think he likes you, though." Fennekin yipped again, staring at Nami.
Nami grinned, reaching up to offer her hand for the Fennekin to sniff. A scratch on her arm looked to be bleeding, and it wasn't the only one, but she seemed fine. A small trill sounded as Kanaloa weaved around her ankles, looking fine now. "He's not a bother, don't worry."
Donnie laughed awkwardly, watching as Riolu remained as impassive as ever. The only indication that he was listening being the flick of his ears. "He was a gift from my grandparents. They're Pokémon breeders, and he's actually the grandson of my grandma's Lucario. Anyways, they wanted me to have a reliable partner, but as you can see, I haven't quite earned his trust yet…" Riolu made a sound of agreement, almost similar to a huff. Froakie, meanwhile, hopped over to investigate Fennekin. "Oh! Kanaloa!" Donnie suddenly exclaimed, looking to Nami for permission to pet the Vaporeon.
Fennekin sniffed Froakie, seemingly recognizing the type of pokemon from his birth region. "Hmm…" Lucas observed the Riolu. "Perhaps you need to overcome some trial together? Fennekin has helped me through a lot of hard times. However, I did also hatch him myself, so we could also be close because of that." Fennekin yipped in agreement, toying with Lucas's hair.
Kanaloa moved from Nami, who was wandering over to Donnie's Pokemon, to Donnie, looking curiously up at her. "She likes to be scratched behind her webbing." Nami advised, before lifting her hands in a wave to Riolu like she was greeting a person. "Alola!"
Donnie nodded at his suggestion, saying, "That's what I thought, but he doesn't want to battle, and all that really happens is he and Froakie end up getting hurt. I've been scared to challenge any of the Kahunas because of it," she admitted. She grinned happily at Nami, mouthing thank you, before crouching down to scratch behind Kanaloa's webbing. She glanced up to see Riolu's reaction to Naomi's greeting, feeling familiar disappointment when Riolu only tilted his head slightly in acknowledgement. Still, she consoled herself, it was a start.
Lucas carefully held his hand out to Riolu, making eye contact with the pokemon to tell him that he was a friend. He knew that Riolu could sense his aura, which would help his case. Fennekin realized what Lucas was doing and kept quiet so he could focus.
Kanaloa let out a happy trill, tail flicking. Nami dug around her bag, pulling out a small packaged desert of some sort and holding it up to show Riolu, in offering. "You've basically just become best friends with her. She's so easy to please." Nami joked, winking at Kanaloa, who's tongue poked out just a bit.
Riolu blinked and turned his head towards Lucas curiously, keeping his arm crossed guardedly. He stared into his eyes for almost a solid minute, before slowly uncrossing its arms and placing a paw in his hand. It was done begrudgingly, and Riolu still had an air of aloofness, but he'd never behaved that way before. Ever. "How… Are you doing that?" Donnie asked in a hushed voice, looking back and forth between the two. She glanced up distractedley at Nami and grinned in acknowledgement, before turning back in time to see Riolu reluctantly take the offered treat.
"He seems to act somewhat like a cat." Lucas observed. "You need to approach him slowly and let him make the first move. He needs to trust you, really. The relationship between a pokemon and their trainer must be two sided. It's clear that you're ready and willing to form a friendship with Riolu, but he's hesitant. If you can figure out what's making him hesitate… then you should be able to ease into a friendship."
Riolu stared a moment longer, then retracted his paw from Lucas's hand, devoting both appendages to eating the sweet. "That… Makes sense," Donnie said after a moment. "I have been a little overeager, maybe…" She spared another second to pet the pokémon in front of her, whispering "It was nice to meet you Kanaloa," before slowly standing and giving Riolu a thoughtful look. Her attention diverted somewhat when Froakie hopped up to Nami, likely wondering where his treat was, but for the most part stayed focused on Riolu. "Maybe there's hope for us, yet," she said, mostly to herself. "Hey, where are you guys going after this?" Donnie asked, turning to face them.
"I'm headed straight for the Trial." Nami said, pulling more of the desserts from her bag and passing one to each Pokemon. There was a flash of light, and Kanaloa let out another happy sound as a Wingull landed directly on top of Nami's head, happily accepting the dessert she offered. "I'm trying to hatch an egg, and I heard the best way to do that was travel all the long routes."
Donnie nodded in understanding. "That sounds like a lot of fun! And I like your Wingull… Do you have plans, Lucas?" She glanced back to see Riolu finishing up his snack, and hesitantly leaned an arm a few feet away from him. The pokémon watched cautiously, but didn't move. Froakie, having contentedly devoured his own treat, nudged against Nami's leg before demanding the attention of the other water types.
Kanaloa happily nudged Froakie as Wingull glided down onto the ground. Nami laughed, crouching and pulling out a Poketoy to play with the Pokemon.
"Plans?" Lucas looked up. "Er… not really, honestly. I mostly go around to observe and or catch pokemon. I also evolve some of them, like the Pidgeot I came on, or… here, this one's lovely." He muttered as he pulled a Pokeball out of his bag. When he released the pokemon inside, a stunning Ninetales appeared next to him. It observed the two girls silently, seemingly almost bored.
Nami looked up from playing with the Pokemon, her eyes widening. "A Ninetails? I've been trying to catch a Vulpix forever! Dude." She continued to mutter excitedly as the Pokemon played with each other, half her sentences not even in the same language.
Lucas stroked the pokemon's head softly. The Ninetales and Fennekin greeted each other, seeming to have a close relationship as well. "Ninetales and Fennekin are good friends… most of my pokemon like each other, actually. Although Pidgeot is a little standoffish sometimes…" Lucas gently took Fennekin off his shoulder and held it in his arms again.
Donnie was equally impressed by the Ninetales. Although she'd seen several Vulpix, she'd never seen the evolved form before. "Beautiful," she murmured, fingers curling slightly as she pictured running them through its fur. She seemingly snapped out of her stupor, shaking her head slightly to refocus. "Would you guys want to travel together? I'm in the same boat as Lucas, but in the event that I do go to the Trial, it could be beneficial to see what Pokémon the kahunas have and plan out a strategy… I don't know, I'm kind of rambling, but it could be nice to travel with other people."
