Any advice on how to TRIM your own hair?

Hey guys

So next weekend a friend of mine is coming over and I’m gonna ask her to help me trim my hair about an inch (so I can grow it out much easier to get rid of the dead, dry pieces of hair and split ends). Any advice from those who have done it?

I'm not a hairstylist or anything but I've trimmed my sister's hair a couple of times. The only advice I have is make sure you part the hair, cut the hair when it's clean, brushed, and damp (but not dripping wet), and cut at a slight angle. When you first start cutting, cut off less than an inch, because if you mess up you'll end up having to cut more off.
