My mom doesn't think they help. she thinks they just shove me deeper down the hole but they taught me it's okay not to be okay and that instead of ignoring the problem we're gonna face it

Well my advice is not to give a single solitary fuck (pardon) about their opinion. If you're super sensitive to stuff like that, then try and explain why it helps (fyi it doesn't always work, it didn't for me) if they don't listen don't bring it up around them again. I know it's bad, but sometimes you have to let it go….

I don't bring up TOP around my family because they hate them too. Try explaining what their lyrics are about like what @ThatBackgroundSlytherin said. They teach you that it's okay to not be okay for a while and to take the time and effort to get better.

OKay so MK already knows about this but others may not.
About 2 years ago I was taken out of my mother's house because she was doing drugs and abusing me, etc. In the years I lived with her she hurt my self esteem horribly. Now, I go to school and just someone looking at me and making a weird face makes me start sobbing. I've been trying to deal with it but I can't. It was horrible especially today, mother's day, she wanted to get ice cream, actually she forced me to get ice cream with her. The whole time she was just talking about everything horrible about me….I just……ugh

All I can think of to say is build yourself up. Other people’s negative opinions of you don’t matter. Just recognize the nice ones, the ones that show you for who you really are. Who gives a crap what the kids at school think? They don’t know you. You know you, and you know that you are more than whatever they think or say you are.

I'm so sorry, I thought you and your brother were with other family right now… you don't have to do what she says, if you're out of her house, you don't have to go anywhere with her if you don't want to.
