I have handled other situations much less gracefully
for example
last summer, I went on a date (which I didn't realize was actually intended to be a date until I was on it) and uh the guy def wanted to kiss me and I totally noticed/wondered but didn't wanna say anything cause I'm actually pretty shy? and then after the date he texted me and said "you are so bad at reading body language" and then he kinda ghosted me for months so that was great. But the entire time I'm like… ben we gotta talk. and he would be like sorry busy rn

Besides, he should have recognized that you didn't want to kiss him and respected that. People who try and cross personal boundaries without expressed permission really need to work on that.
