In this lesson, you will investigate the causes, some of the basic ideas of government, and the grievances that resulted in the colonists declaring independence from Great Britain in the Declaration of Independence.

You will demonstrate your understanding of these ideas by completing the following tasks.
1. After we have read the Declaration aloud in class, you will work with an assigned partner to complete the Declaration Graphic Organizer(handed out in class).

- When you have completed your graphic organizer, you should answer the following questions on your own:
You will write a rough draft of your answers on the back of the graphic organizer.
Why did Americans have a right to declare their independence?
What was the most important complaint/grievance listed in the Declaration?
Why was it the most important grievance?
Which of the four parts of the Declaration is the most meaningful and why?
You have the choice to answer the questions in one of the following formats:
1.A google document in paragraph form
2.A video response
3.A drawing or a cartoon-see me if you need help getting it into a format to upload
