I personally believe homosexuality is sinful, but I'm not going to view you as any less of a person for it. Not to mention I might be in a state of mortal sin right now so I'd have no right to judge people for their sins even if I didn't feel that way

As long as you aren't hating on us, which I know you won't, I don't mind. You have the right to have views just as we do.

What'd you do?
I started off the new year in mortal sin since I had a panic attack and missed Mass on a Holy Day of Obligation

book

Dude I think if you actually couldn't make it you are not in trouble at all.

I got to do some confession really soon after for a retreat so it was no big deal

It's a long story… To put it short, I don't really know…? It's confusing, slightly personal, and extremely hard to explain, so I'd rather not say anything.

as a Methodist from a super chill church I don't know what half the stuff you're talking about is and I'm kind of curious

Oh yeah… Only Catholics do the confession thing… Well to put it simply, there are some sins that Catholics consider to be too grave to be forgiven through prayer, sins so awful they're considered worthy of condemning someone to hell. We call them "Mortal sins". As with all sins, they can be forgiven, but you have to go to "Confession" first. What is Confession? It's where you go to a small room, kneel down and confess your sins to a priest. Simple as that. By admitting out loud that you're truly sorry for what you've done, you prove that you're worthy of forgiveness. (that's probably explained terribly but I tried)

Note: Mortal sins aren't just grave sins, you can commit a grave sin without it being mortal. You have to fully understand that what you're doing is wrong, fully consent to it, and it has to be grave matter in order for it to be considered mortal. So if you accidentally killed someone or were pressured into skipping mass on a Holy Day Of Obligation (a day where you're obligated to go to church) that doesn't count.
Examples of grave matter would be:

  • Murder
  • Adultery
  • Theft

And many others that I don’t necessarily want to talk about on the good, Christian server.

I hope this explanation made sense…

It does make sense, thank you!
My church is more like a gathering of people in tee shirts and jeans. The most formal thing we have is a baptizing ceremony-thing

I know Anglicans do confession. And I'm certain Orthodox as well.

Along with CEC.

Mine to, although I haven’t been to church for a year, due to our vehicle problems…

I go to an extremely fancy, organized, formal, well-decorated church, you definitely don’t show up in jeans and a t-shirt there. There are these beautiful paintings on nearly every wall, gorgeous light fixtures hanging from the extremely high ceiling, tile floors in all sorts of patterns, it all sounds odd when I say it like this but it’s truly beautiful and I think that’s what I like about it. Not that casual churches are wrong or anything, I just really enjoy going there in nice clothing, Bowing my head in front of all this beautiful scenery, and silently praying before mass starts. It’s peaceful, and it helps me focus on prayer.

That's cool! I'm glad that you have a church you love!

I agree. I have friends that are, but I still love them.

Ugh my church doesn't have a lot of money so we had to move out of our building and we're currently worshipping at the nearby campus ministry
