Why is that horrible? My mom is older than my dad too

My step-dad's 41 and my mom's 34, but their parenting styles are super different. My step-dad was raised by literal narcissists, as in like the diagnosis, not just traits, and it shows. He's used to the idea that your kids should respect, which is true, but he thinks he has to yell and be the Boss to get that, whereas my mom, who had a hugely abusive father, tries to be more like her mother, and knows that your kids should be able to trust you, which builds respect. Getting in trouble with each of them in turn is like fucking whiplash, and I love my dad but wtf
