turns out i also have to include two symbolic things before i can even get to the fanfiction part and…i wanna know if i should keep this in my project or remove it and idk like rewrite it

The clock symbolizes the passage of time, and how Gatsby is stuck in the past, while Daisy has moved on. It also symbolizes how Gatsby wishes for things to be like they were five years ago before Daisy married Tom. This is further supported by the following paragraphs that can be found in Chapter Six.

“I wouldn’t ask too much of her,” I ventured. “You can’t repeat the past.”

“Can’t repeat the past?” he cried incredulously. Why of course you can!”

He looked around him wildly, as if the past were lurking here in the shadows of his house, just out of reach of his hand. “I’m going to fix everything just the way it was before,” he said, nodding determinedly. “She’ll see.”
