Happy Juneteenth everyone! This commemorates the day that many Americans finally gained freedom and independence. After the Emancipation Proclamation, white Texans were unwilling to release the enslaved people they kept hostage. Two years later, on this day in Galveston, TX, the last enslaved people were finally freed! America has a long way to go with racial equality, but this is a huge milestone that should be celebrated just like the fourth of July!
What to do to celebrate: support Black businesses and creators, get informed on the topic, cook, learn about Black history and culture, etc. I've been on a Black indie kick recently, so if you want music recommendations lmk!
