Yeah, I want to be the super talented, rich, unemployed aunt who is an FBI agent and knows how to do everything so I've been trying to learn some languages.
Please, allow us to converse...
I'm trying to learn Spanish at the moment, it seemed logical since I have a friend who speaks fluent Spanish that I can practice with.
Literally a third of my school is fluent in Spanish, it's just so prominent in public schools, especially with the Mexican and Venezuelan refugees rn
I've attempted to learn Japanese a few times…
I'm not even close to being able to understand any basic sentences, however, I am capable of recognizing and writing a few letters, so now all my friends think I'm this super impressive genius with undeniable language skills.
I was telling someone something in Spanish and these kids turned to me like "OHMYGODYOUSPEAKSPANISHTHATSSOCUTE"
Ooh! I'm attempting to learn that as well. My nerd friend and I are learning together.
Omg haha that is amazing
I realize - the word for 'hello' translates to 'what do you want?'
In Canada we have to take French classes in elementary school so I know a few phrases and words but Canadian French is a lot different from real French, I once had a French exchange student from France and people would try to talk to her in French but it was so different they couldn't really communicate Haha
So I know basic ASL, a bit of Spanish, very basic Canadian French, English, and I would like to learn some Korean
Oh yeah I also know ASL
^^^
It's because I get sore throats easily, and many of friends also know it. I guess I'm just good with words? I am in honors english…
The only thing I am fluent in is English, the rest is just very very basic
My native language is English, and one could say I'm not even fluent in that. I'm supposed to learn Spanish next year, but that's it.
I am fluent in Swedish and almost fluent in English… in Sweden, we take English classes from that we are 9 years old. If anyone here isn’t from an english speaking country, when did you start learning english? We also get to choose a third language in which I chose German which I have been learning for 2 years now… I understand most German and I can speak a bit more than the basics… I think I would be able to converse like normal in German but I have never tried….
You're very good at english!
Thanks, if that comment was meant for me!
Yup!
I really hope things go well for you with that girl you wrote about in the other chat! I love talking to people about their crushes and stuff lol
That sounds pretty cool! Where I am in Canada we don't have very many opportunities to learn a new language. It was just French classes where no one really learned anything and that's it.

Oh, that’s too bad…

I'm a native English speaker who is teaching herself Japanese. All of my cousins on my mom's side took it in school, but mine doesn't offer it and the age gap between me and my cousins is HUGE.
Japanese is kinda hard, right?

Oh you do, huh?
ready for a rant

SO HARD. I sometimes start to cry and say I'll never understand it. Then I remember my cousins and refuse to let them show me up.

Bring it on
Also (I’m just gonna complain a bit over here, feel free to ignore me if you want to) it sucks not being able not fully write in English since whenever I wanna share some of my writing here on the forum I first have to translate the entire thing and even if I do it doesn’t sound by half as good as it does in Swedish…
