so I rode the drill for the rodeo last night… did terrible cause the music was unreasonably loud and my horse (Ginger, I call her Lil Gin) was scared and whenever we had a maneuver in the corner where the speakers were she wouldn't go and would take oof in the other direction and we might have to do it aagain tonight for the second night of the rodeo 😫. I really don't want to
If your horse will let you touch her ears, your best bet is to put all natural cotton or some way to dampen sound in them. As long as it’s just for show, and not competition, you should be fine. She still needs to hear you; but hopefully the sound from the music won’t spook her as much.
yeah im planning on making some sort of earplugs for her. I keep thinking it was really bad, but since we weren't at competition nobody really could tell how bad it was. it was mostly at the end when we had a maneuver down near the entrance gate where the speakers were, and she wouldn't go and follow the horse she needed to. had to one-rein stop her inn the middle of the arena and pop back inn place after that move was done. maybe it wasn't as bad as I thought it was, but I am a rough critic. especially cause my horse and I are the underdogs amongst this team of well-seasoned riders and barrel horses who can make hairpin turns with light leg pressure and neck rein without special effort. im gonna have to wear my bumper spurs tonight for extra leg pressure when turning because she's kinda small and it's a little hard for my heels to reach her at speed.
