I LOVE SHIPPING REAL PEOPLE

1. Shipping real people is demeaning to the people you're shipping. It throws away their right to choose their path without letting down other people who have no business in their relationships

2. It plays them as objects and not real people with feelings and a mind. They're pressured into thinking the fans choose their lives

3. Shipping can go too far. Writing fanfic/drawing fanart of real people is disgusting

4. When they say that they aren't doing something the fans want, they get hate mail/tweets.

5. Shipping real folks can ruin the friendship of the two people in question. It's happened before.

6. When you get physically upset about it, isn't that kind of a red flag? Think about it.

7. Step into their shoes for a minute. If someone was really obnoxious about your relationship even though you want to keep it platonic, that would make you uncomfortable and embarrassed.

like my best friend and a girl I know were dating
and I shipped them bc they were cute together
but then they broke up so I stopped
respect ppl and their right to be in a relationship or to not be in one, whatever they choose

However, what if you're shipping, for example, your best friend, and he/she likes this guy/girl, so you two secretly ship them together? Like, you don't tell anyone else about it, but you have a little ship name and sometimes when they interact you whisper to each other, "insert ship name here!", but you're not telling the other person they have to do anything– In fact, the other person doesn't even know about it. It's between the two of you.

I totally understand your point here, and especially in middle school and high school (and elementary, I guess, if you go to one of those really boujee places. . .), people getting shipped can automatically mean "THEY'RE DATING!" to some people. I've been in that situation a few times, and it's annoying, because it always goes like this: We're friends who end up drifting apart because we can't hang out without being: a) screamed at, and b) whispered about and pointed at.

The first bit, I've done that, so I think it's okay. Anything concrete that really comes of ships like that is wingmanning/winggirling. But like, don't force it on anyone

I ship them, but I respect them if they don't want a relationship. I kinda think the smut is pretty overboard for real life people. It would be acceptable to for fictional stories with characters who are at least 18, but other than that it kinda freaks me out.

but also know that asexuality isn't just not liking sex/smut, it's not having sexual attraction (though there are diff degrees). For example, demisexual is when you don't have sexual attraction until you know someone really well
