I can’t sleep in my bedroom for a few days. Not that I’ve been sleeping anyway, but until I’m confident that spiders aren’t going to start crawling all over me, I refuse to sleep in my bedroom.

Yep. Poor guy gets framed for starting a fire that destroys his school's gymnasium. The populace isn't aware of people with powers, the paranormal, etc. Therefore (most) people don't believe him about his powers.
