I can't tell you everything an American eats, but here are the most common meals I've seen for Midwest peeps in Indiana
Breakfast- if not cereal, then toast (With butter, and or jelly), easy over eggs, hashbrowns, pancakes, waffles, or sausage gravy and biscuits.
Lunch- School lunches are peanut butter and jelly, pizza, or whatever horror the school or your parents come up with. At home usually something light like cold meat sandwiches or again, pb&j
Dinner- If it's comfort food, it's most likely on the menu. Chicken pot pie, chicken noodles (The thick kind, not the soup) and mashed potatoes, rolls, fried chicken, things like that.
Snacks- Yogurt, cheese sticks, pretzels
In general- just comfort foods, really

Breakfast for me is cereal, sweet bread, I'm talking about Mexican sweet bread, sometimes toast or if we have cookies, I eat cookies. My school has never given out pb&j, they give out sunbutter and jelly sandwiches, which taste almost the same as a pb&j. And like for lunch, they have a wide variety of foods. And some is actually pretty good. Dinner is whatever my mom makes, which would be. . . what people in Mexico usually make.
Most of my neighbors eat pretty much the same, but then again, I live in a Hispanic community, so…

When it comes to breakfast, lots of people just don't eat it. But usually, people eat cereal, toast, a piece of fruit, waffles, pancakes, eggs, bacon or sausage, smoothie, and orange juice.
Lunch is usually a sandwich such as pb&j, turkey, ham, salami, roast beef, cheese, tuna, or egg salad. Some snakcks are probably incorporated as well.
Dinner could be all sorts of things. Italian, Chinese, Japanese, Mexican, or just plain American are popular meal choices. American is cheeseburgers, hotdogs, and all that good stuff. And salads. People eat salads at dinner.
Snacks could be chips, pretzels, and salty stuff like that. It could also be candy, Oreos/cookies, and sweet stuff like that. And finally, it could be healthy stuff such as fruits, veggies, or some weird combo of both.
