What's a pivot?

Oof, I will try to keep it simple.
In roller derby, the jammer is the one who scores points. If the jammer can't get through the blockers, they can hand the cap off to their pivot.
It's for my thoughts, though.
If I can't get past the blockers, I can talk to this person like they're my pivot and helping me get through
