It's a Broadway musical about the life and death of Alexander Hamilton.

The reason why a lot of people freak out about it is because its a rap/hip hop styled musical performed by a mostly minority cast. Everyone in it is extraordinarily talented and the songs are hella catchy.

Yeah and the awesome representation in people and music is just ONE of the reasons it's so great. Awesome history told with no bias that teenagers everywhere love?? WHAT A VICTORY. I loved learning about the American Revolution, and Hamilton reignited that fire in me. :D And it's about an underrepresented figure in history that everyone seemed to hate, Hamilton. Inspired by an awesome biography.

AND THE LYRICS ARE GENIUS. I think just listening to those lyrics makes someone smarter, like how listening to complicated classical music does the same. XD

It's a musical. And the music, written by Lin-Manuel Miranda (who, incidentally, wrote a lot of music for Moana), is absolutely incredible. It contains quotes like: Death doesn't discriminate between the sinners and the saints, it takes and it takes and it takes [Wait For It]. You and your words flooded my senses. You built me palaces out of paragraphs [Burn]. What is a legacy? It's planting seeds in a garden you never get to see [The World Was Wide Enough]. I will send a fully-armed battalion to remind you of my love [You'll Be Back], among many more. I highly recommend bingeing his Hamilton music.

I haven’t seen Hamilton, but I really want to. It sounds great!
