There is very little detail in this story as of yet.
I believe it's in the future. The government is a bit wacky, laws are a little dark and seldom enforced.
I need help in making this world unique. Every dystopian world seems to end up looking the same, so I'd love to have a fun twist to go with mine, or maybe y'all could give me some advice on what not to do and on tropes to avoid. Either way, I'd love to hear any insight.

"The laws are a little dark and seldom enforced?" That seems like an oxymoron given the fact that, if the disagreeable laws aren't really enforced, what's the issue? Given the fact that most dystopian governments are either dictatorships or run by corporate greed (sometimes both), I think your story should do more than topple the scary regime.
Take Final Fantasy VII, for instance. The megacorporation Shinra is a major influence on the world and is slowly killing the planet, but the real villain ends up being something that they created and lost control of. It's the corporation's fault, but killing Sephiroth ends up becoming the party's main goal. Does that help at all?
