I'm basing one of my characters, the Demon Dragon (haven't decided his/its actual name yet), off of Cthulhu design-wise and possibly lore-wise. Is this a bad thing? I'm not taking everything lore-wise from Cthulhu, the Demon Dragon might have a cult worshipping him/it, but then again, there are a lot of dark gods in literature.
Is basing characters off of mythical creatures a bad thing?

using a figure from literature or folklore is not necessarily a bad thing–if anything, it can actually lead to some pretty interesting concepts! you may want to compare your character and its backstory to the actual cthulhu mythos to make sure you're not being too derivative, but as long as it has mostly original backstories and personality then i'm sure it will be fine
