It's hard to explain, because there's a lot of different kinds, but if you have a one on one, you take turns putting in responses. Like I would put:
Wiping the tears from her eyes, Carlie ran over to Gale. "What are you doing here you jerk?" She yelled at him pushing him away.
And then you'd put how Gale would respond, kinda like:
He gained his balance, and reached out to take her hand. "Because I still love you, you idiot." Gale rolled his eyes taking her waist.
Basically, it's a back and forth conversations that you're playing as a different character.
