Asking for tips/help.
Need help writing something
It's almost Valentines day and I am no good at writing poems. Or writing in general. I'm asking for tips or help writing a poem for/about my girlfriend. Please and thanks.
AH I CAN ACTUALLY HELP WITH THIS OKAY
So as both a poet and a hopeless romantic, here are a few of my tips:
- When writing poetry, the rhythm is the biggest thing you need to keep consistent, or else it won't read like poetry, it'll read like oddly descriptive prose.
- When writing about an emotion, show and don't tell. For poetry this usually means writing about things that invoke the feeling in the reader, as opposed to actually saying the word love.
- Think long and hard about the feeling your girlfriend gives you, but think beyond words, feel what it actually feels like in your body. Is it a fuzzy sensation? Does your stomach twist? Does the back of your head tingle?
- Describe that feeling as specifically as possible, but don't use that in the actual poem unless you're really happy with a part of it.
- Take that feeling and convey it through strong imagry, flowery wording, and a light upbeat rhythm, and you've got yourself a romantic poem.
Woah. Thanks man, I'm not o good at writing so this helps alot!
You're very welcome! Happy to help!
Nah, I just figured if people on here can write they'd be the best to ask
