Less characters smoking because 'so tragic' and 'how edgy'. I just don't really think that's the right sort of message to send. It's a bit more complicated in most cases.

Oh shit I'm called out-
But in my defense, the character doing so is going through a lot of shit.

YES. Also so many people are like "slowburns ew" and it makes me angry because why would you prefer instalove over an adorable slow burn??

Plus, in my opinion, slow-burn is more realistic. (Vortex & Sketch)

Feels vaguely aro/acephobic, not gonna lie-

And is just plain stupid.

Lol Ian, my WhO aM i!!!!1!!1!! character.

Honestly yeah, instalove makes me cringe the vast majority of the time, unless it's done right (:O true)

How is Instalove™ ever done right?

Eh, personally I don't care if a relationship is instalove if it's cute. If it's like cringey and toxic then I don't like it.

That's what I meant, basically lmao. If it's cute instalove, then I give it a pass. If it's cringey, nope

I can't stand any of that stuff. I've seen things. Like Hallmark movies.

The wine one is the best and you can't change my mind

What is this cursed thing?

there's a Hallmark movie with winemakers and I love it. Peak Hallmark, truly

Is it not a Christmas movie?

It might be? Probably but I haven't seen it in a while and I only remember parts of it

@Kinarymo

Dear god i hate insta romances with a passion - i dont even like romance that much, but slowburns especially with plenty of torment and one/both characters being oblivious? delicios

I can't stand any of that stuff. I've seen things. Like Hallmark movies.

They all follow the same basic formula and it is sickening! Yet I watch them because I'm a sap.

the best way to watch a hallmark movie is with a bowl of popcorn and a heaping pile of sarcasm

@Wry_Wyvern

I don't mind characters getting into a relationship early on, but only if they knew each other for a while and they DID slowly fall for each other, just before the events of the story, or offscreen (if they're minor characters).
OR, if it's acknowledged that it's a casual relationship to begin with and they're together because they liked each other on a first impression and want to know each other better, not because Love At First Sight (some people do date like this, it's weird to me but I don't mind reading it if it isn't presented as immediate True Love).

^^^^^This. I agree with this!

"We made out once and then we found out it's not acceptable in any capacity for us to be together but we should do it anyways because I'm in love with you even though we've never even talked, I know nothing about you, and our relationship is very toxic as it is." HwAt is this? It's gross, that's what. Stop.

@Pickles group

And student teacher relationships. Ew. I don't care what you're doing with it or how you're handling it, I do not want it.

@ElderGod-Icefire

Also incest is a huge nope. Or like…potential incest (Looking at you, Cassandra Clare!)

group
@Pickles group

I feel like we don't even need any books that handle it "well" or try to like…make some point? Tbh handling it well is just not having it

I can tolerate it if it's in like….a thriller about a super fucked up family and clearly shown as bad, but when it's tossed in for a forbidden love plot? Ew.

group
@Pickles group

Also it shouldn't be thrown in just to prove how bad the family or whatever is, it needs to be…I don't know how to put it. But like. If you're gonna do that, don't throw it in just to say haha look how twisted and gross this family is, it's gotta be deeper than that, y'know?

Yeah, it's gotta be actually handled and not just a "heehee see it's gross and twisted! look how eeeevil my villains are!"
