Hi, I'm Halle, a self taught artist. I am trying to explore my options and get comfortable with different styles and stuff, (my current style is like a mix between c-cassandra and disney princess) and there are a few things that I need help with. If you have any suggestions, please let me know!

-different ways to draw mouths (I typically draw half to full bodied images so not too detailed)
-what are some good digital art apps
-leg anatomy

thanks!

I'm mostly self taught as well, but I've picked up a few things from some tutorials.
For legs

This gif is shows how to draw arms, but it works for legs as well

For digital art apps, I really like photoshop. Unfortunately though, it can be a bit expensive.FireAlpaca, Gimp, and Paint Tool SAI are some free ones. While I haven't actually used any of them, I've heard some good things from people who do.
I've also used Sketchbook Express in the past as well and it's pretty simple and easy to figure out so it's a good one if you're just getting used to digital art. But it is pretty limited compared to some of the other programs out there.

I don't really know how to help with mouths, unfortunately. I've always just done a curvy little line haha. Just experiment lots, and look at tutorials I guess.

ahhh thanks dude this is great!!!

@Azuresbend

Autodesk sketchbook is a great free download for drawing and I've found it to be my favorite.
And there's no real hard and fast ways to do lips because they're all different but the upper lip is essentially a recurve bow and the lower lip is a shallow bowl. generally speaking there's a link between melanins and the size and thickness of lips if you want to do more accurate proportions. Also personally I find the easiest position to draw a mouth in a a smirk because it still gives personality to the face without putting you through the hell that is drawing teeth.
Also, and of course only if you want to, I'd love to see some examples of your work if you wanted to link them.

AH how do you upload pictures to this thread

group
@Starfast group

You need to upload them to an image hosting website like Imgur, or even DeviantArt. Once you've done that, right click and hit "copy image address" then just paste it into here. It will usually end with .jpg, .png or .gif
So like this (just without spaces)
https:// pre00.deviantart.net/42cf/th/pre/f/2018/070/b/3/just_hanging_out_by_starfast99-dc5nrfl.png

Would leave you with this

@Fraust

I use Medibang Paint Pro (Despite the 'Pro', it's free! If you get it, make sure you don't get the normal Medibang Paint. It's not as good) and would highly recommend. As for anatomy, really just look up a bunch of reference pictures. It really helps ^^

So this is Astra - Astra Liddel
The picture is of the shirt she's wearing,
and for the pose if you can do a side pose I want her to be like

and also holding a deck of cards.

@ninja_violinist

You are…
basically everything I aspire to be as an artist
My goodness, that's spectacular!
When it comes to digital art, I can recommend Krita - it's free and I really like the way it's laid out. Also it has a pretty active community, which means you can access other people's brushes and see Youtube tutorials from someone who uses the same software (idk I always find that helpful)
When it comes to anatomy
[…. agony ….]
But I recommend looking up Sara Tepes on Youtube for help with drawing lips and/or faces
I recommend crying in a corner about leg anatomy
(Haha) (I wish I was joking)
Actually though basically what everyone else has said. Referencing from life, referencing from other artists, and the helpful diagrams from earlier.
Oh and what I personally think is helpful (though maybe that's just me) is watching speedpaints on Youtube
For me 50% of the struggle is that I have no idea what to do next and how to structure it and what to start with so my paintings/drawings end up really messy. So I enjoy watching the art build up and see how other artists tackle the process and how they set it up
(I have no idea why I'm preaching at someone who's already as amazing as you) (sorry about that)
