A Change of Heart // OxO (Closed)

Edan is the kingdom’s most popular and youngest villain, enabled with the rare ability to create, control, and manipulate heat. Joan is the highest general of the King’s guard. After months of tracking him, Joan finally arrests Edan at his weakest and most vulnerable point, and strips him of his power. Edan is left powerless, frail, exhausted, devoid of his identity—or at least what he thought his identity had been. Because he is so young, he is given the chance at a new life as a lowly stablehand under Joan’s command. He is subjected to abuse from the higher ranking soldiers, but at least he isn’t in prison. Edan has no intention of becoming a “better person”; he swears that he will get revenge on Joan… until his feelings for Joan begin to change.

Name: Edan Barron
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Pan
Age: 18
Appearance: Edan has generally younger looking features, particularly in his scraggly body type, shorter-than-average height, little to no muscles, and a rounded jawline. Other than the dark bags under his eyes from little sleep, he has freckled sun-tanned skin with pink-undertones. His light ginger hair is messy, unkempt, and usually kept in a sloppy ponytail with way too many strands hanging out of place.
Personality: Edan doesn’t have much care for people other than his close family, who he moved away from. Being the only one in his immediate family born with powers, he practically idolizes it and wants to push his abilities to the limits, even at the expense of other people. His demeanor relies on his powers: without much energy he is sluggish and irritable & with more sunshine/heat he is charismatic.
Power (if any): Thermokinesis. Basically a literal energy vampire. Edan can transfer heat from himself to other things —water, a person, etc.—but it drains him. In order to strengthen himself, he drains the heat from other people to himself, giving him a sense of exhilaration and satisfaction. The people he leeches off of later feel sedated, exhausted, comatose or even dead in some cases from hypothermia. In order to use his power, he must touch whatever he wants to drain/warm.
Other: Edan thrives in sunlight and takes small naps outside during the day when he can. However, it’s easier to practice his abilities under the cover of night, so he doesn’t get much sleep.

There must have been a thousand places to hide in the capital of Eprea, and even easier to stay concealed in them while the streets were bustling with crowds. Merchants, passers-by, and other typical foot traffic one might find in a populated city taking advantage of the daylight hours. Nighttime was dangerous; anyone with a sense of self-preservation stayed indoors after the sun went down. Best to get all the errands done before then. He—the vampire—hunted at night, and he drained the life out of anyone or anything he came across, even the children. At least that’s what they murmured during gossip hours.

In one of the thousand places to hide in the capital of Eprea, Edan used his arm in place of a pillow while he took his nap. Half asleep, half listening to the distant chatter from just outside the alley he’d made himself a little makeshift home in.

(It can be yeah! Originally I was thinking Venna would arrest Edan while he’s vulnerable here, but I’m cool with going in a different direction too)

The vampire was a myth, the result of rumors based on gossip. Though the myth was based on fact: citizens were disappearing, or if they didn’t disappear found with all the warmth in the body drained out of them. Cold to the touch. Only a handful of victims lived to tell what happened.

Edan drifted in and out of sleep. Dusk was approaching, and that made it all the more difficult to doze off completely. Eventually, supposing he wouldn’t be getting much more sleep, he dragged a hand down his face.

(No worries! It’s all good :) And ooh that would totally work!! I really like that idea, it might be a way for the government to control the criminals that do have powers)

Edan lifted his head at the sound of footsteps, narrowing his gaze towards the end of the alleyway. He whispered a curse at the sight of a dark silhouette, or maybe an expression of happiness would have been more appropriate given the appearance of the figure. Armor-less, and if not female rather slim for a man. At first glance, he assumed whoever it was very well could be an easy first target for the night. A reckless decision, perhaps, but what could really happen? He pushed himself up stand against the wall— in hopes the figure wouldn’t immediately notice him.

Growing impatient, Edan dipped out of hiding as the silhouette of the person became clearer. A woman. Perfect, perhaps, if it hadn’t been for the sliver of light making it impossible for him to approach her without being noticed. He stuck his hands in his pockets, staring at the ground while he walked forward. Maybe he could make himself look as harmless as possible until he was close enough. At least that was the goal.

Edan was just a matter of a few steps away from his target when he caught the sliver of warm sunlight. He craned his neck towards it, taking in a breath as the last light of evening seeped into his face. If he hadn’t been determined before, the surge of energy gave him the confidence to grab at the woman’s arm, or hand, or wherever he could find exposed skin first, searching and desperate for warmth.
