Halm was a bit concerned by the soul's struggles, so he carefully caught it with his fingers. He was form enough to keep it in place, but not so much to where the soul would actually be hurt.
"You're out of the body because I needed to talk to you," Halm explained calmly. "If you were dead, you wouldn't be able to move around, which you obviously were. And, the fate tie is still intact." Halm carefully used his other hand to lift the tie to show the soul.

The soul crossed its tiny arms and huffed again. "Why do you want to talk to me?"

"I want to know why you've been giving the consciousness quiet the scare with your tugging. Why did you think you were dead?" Halm sat down next to the wardrobe, not quite trusting enough of the soul to let it go yet.

"Well, I am in the underworld if you've forgotten! He's just gonna die here anyways and he doesn't want to get old! I might as well just go now."

"He didn't seem too keen on dying yet earlier," Halm said. "Please, just give it some time."

@Fraust

"That's what you think. The kid hasn't had much interest in living for a while. Now he's gotta spend eternity here. I bet he'd like to be free of me for a little while."

"Normally, I would have you discuss this with Cas himself, but…" Halm looked up at the unconscious man, shaking his head a little. "You've put a lot of stress on him."

"He doesn't listen to me anymore because I stress him out! I'm just telling him how it is and he gets all whiny about it! He's too sensitive."

"Maybe try to be a bit gentler when trying to tell him things? His sensitivity most likely go away any time soon, and both of you need to get along. You've seen what happens when you don't." Eventually, Halm gently released the soul from his grip, allowing it to sit on it's own.

The soul huffed indignantly and crossed its tiny arms. "But he's just so weak! He's given up! He doesn't care anymore!"

"Then we both have to help him care again. He can heal, but it will take time." Halm was staying calm, but this new news was troubling him. If he and Cas had never met, would he have ended up here very quickly?

"He cares more about the stupid cat than himself… sure, it's a therapy service animal or something, but what little money he can earn goes to buying cat food instead of food for himself. He doesn't want to take care of himself. If he didn't have the responsibility of taking care of the cat, he'd have arrived here ages ago."

That confirmed Halm's suspicious, at least.
"Any reason to keep alive is a good one," Halm countered. "Unlike what most believe, I don't want people to die." Halm sighed softly. "Like I said, we both need to help him to get better."

The soul shrugged and looked away. "He's hopeless, and he's just going to get worse after this. At least on earth he can control what he does to some extent, but now he's just stuck down here for eternity. Living forever is depressing, you know? You watch all your friends die, or if you haven't got any friends, you're just forced to accept the fact that you have to keep trudging on, even if you just want everything to stop."

"He won't live forever," Halm corrected. "Not if he doesn't want to. He can die still, you both can still move on." Halm went quiet for a moment.
"How about this- give me a year to help Cas. At the end, you both discuss it, and if you both still want to die and move on, then you can."

"He still has to live forever. He'll still have his memories. He'll never be happy here, Halm. Never."

"That's not true," Halm said. "He has the choice to give the memories up. He could start over, just know this life only. And… I understand that. I know he won't be completely happy here. But he can grow content. Like I have."

The soul scoffed a bit. "Yeah, he'd love to forget this life. I guess you'll just raise him up as your son so he never knows he ever lived on earth?"

"Everything would be decided by him before he died." Halm was being adamant about this point. Cas would get to choose everything about him.

"Believe me, he's not going to want his memories. This life has been pretty shitty for him."

"Not just that. How he'll be treated, how much he'll be taught." Halm sighed, leaning back.

@Fraust

"What do you mean? Are you referring to how everyone thought he was a child? He's pretty sensitive about that too."

"That, and his next life. He gets to decide it all beforehand." Halm sighed again, lifting the soul up to eye level.

The soul glared right back at Halm, clearly not afraid of him. "Why don't you just destroy me altogether? He'd be happier."

"No," Halm said firmly. That was not happening. "That's not how we're going to have this." Halm was weary, more than anything. The things he was saying didn't seem to be getting across.

The soul stood up on Halm's hand, glowing a bit more brightly. "Destroy me!" It insisted.

"No," Halm said again. Destroying souls… He loathed it. It was too finite, too sudden.
"I will not be destroying you. Why do you even want me to? That would definitely kill Cas."

"He wants to die! He doesn't want to live here forever! Destroy me!"

"I told you no!" This was the first time Halm had ever raised his voice. It was loud, deep, and very raspy. Very fitting of a god of death.

The soul flinched, but continued glaring at Halm. Suddenly, it flew up and darted around, looking for a way to escape. "If you won't destroy me, I'll find a way to do it myself!"
