Simon smiled as the cat purred softly, nuzzling Astral’s hand. Simon turned his attention back to the other cats, starting to give them treats.

Astral cooed softly, smiling down at the cat.
"So precious," he said. He looked up at Simon, obviously enjoying himself.

Simon had carefully pulled one of the cats into his lap, talking to it quietly in that voice you use when you’re talking to babies.

Astral chuckled some. He sat down completely, pulling the cat he was petting onto his own lap. He smiled softly, looking up at Simon a moment.
"They all really like you," he noted.
((Probably about a year until Simon’s like ‘just kill me’ uwu))
He nodded. “I’ve taken care of them for awhile so they’re used to me. I like them a lot more than pretty much anyone else.” He said with a soft smile. “It’s easier for them now that there’s not as much gang violence and stuff around here.” It had all died out abruptly after the untimely and unexplained death of the local gang leader. ((uwu))

(Random stalker adding in some commentary: Maybe after Astral realizes how hard raising a kid is, he decides to human-ify Simon again (if Simon is cat-ified) and just. Make him raise the baby all on his own. It could be quite angsty for everyone in general.)

“O-oh um..the guy running it died out of nowhere. His death was pretty strange so everyone in the gang kind of fled.” He said quietly, focusing a lot on the cat in his lap instead of Astral.

Astral's eyebrows lowered a bit.
"Oh..? Simon, why do I have a feeling you were involved..?"
He flinched a bit. “U-um…” He stammered out, trying to come up with an excuse while he instinctively pulled his arm closer to his chest.

Astral let out a soft breath.
"We don't have to talk about it if you don't want to. You obviously have your reasons." Astral offered Simon a gentle smile.
"It's okay."
He nodded silently, rubbing his arm absentmindedly. He went back to petting the cat in his lap but he definitely wasn’t as happy as before.

"I'm sorry for asking," Astral said softly. He didn't want Simon to be in a bad mood.
He shrugged. “Not your fault. I shouldn’t have brought it up.”
Simon didn’t like talking about it much. While the relationship didn’t last for very long, it was long enough for over a dozen cigarette burns to be left behind.

Astral looked away a moment. Just how bad had it been for Simon to get this upset? He didn't like the thought of anyone else hurting the man, but it was too late now. The mysterious gang leader was dead.
“They never solved his murder. It seemed almost an impossible way for someone to die.” He said after a bit, growing more comfortable. “All of his bones were broken but on the outside his body looked completely unharmed.”

Astral's eyes widened some.
"Strange indeed… I wonder how the killer managed? It honestly sounds supernatural to me."
“Hmm…I guess you can say that.” He said thoughtfully. “No suspects were ever officially brought in…”

"I'm not surprised. It doesn't sound like there would be anything left behind to suspect anyone." Astral let out a soft breath, continuing to pet the cats.
He nodded. He’d only known about the death when the police had come to search the apartment. And much as he’d hated to admit it, he’d been relieved at the news.

"Have you had enjoyed today so far?" He asked softly, changing the subject.
