- By the End of Summer - (One x One) OPEN

I’ve always loved slice of life romance books with maybe a little dash of mystery. I’ve always wanted to try my hand at one, so here we go. Also, I don’t have much of a plot idea, so I’m completely winging this. 😂 However, I’m pretty good at creating plots on the fly, so I’ll try my hand at this.

You, character A, a very average life, and to be honest, it has gotten rather boring. Besides the occasionally hang out with friends, your life is mundane; you go to school, do your extracurricular activities, and head home. Your life doesn’t change from this routine until you and your parents are suddenly invited on a beach vacation for the summer with the Hayes family. This invitation is unexpected as you and your parents haven’t spoken to the Hayes family in years, but you accept, eager to see your childhood best friend, Mercy. However, drama soon erupts when you arrive, and turmoil threatens to tear old bonds apart. Will you and your old best friend be able to mend your relationship by summer’s end, or will your friendship start to fall apart?

• My character I’ll be using, Mercy, is straight, so I would like a male OC if that’s good with you. 👍🏻👍🏻
• For romance, I like to keep it PG; kissing and hugging are fine, but please, no sexual themes.
• I would like someone who’s somewhat active. Maybe active once or twice every 2-3 days. I’m a busy person myself, so I totally understand not being active for a while.
• I have the right to reject anyone.

(Oh gosh, I have lots of male characters too, but all of them are definitely just traumatized boys. 😂😂 My brain is going in the surfer dude direction; got any like that?)

For months, Mercy Hayes didn’t quite know how she felt about her summer-long beach vacation. Yes, the ocean was okay. While she normally didn’t like going out in the ocean, she always found the beach calming, and she enjoyed exploring the boardwalk. However, despite her excitement for the beach trip, her parents had decided to throw a wrench into her plans; they weren’t going alone. Instead, they were going with another the family. The family of the boy she grew up with.

Mercy was a slight bit thrilled to hear this news; she hadn’t spoken to him in years, but there were reasons for that. For starters, her families had stopped getting along. They had had some sort of disagreement- Mercy was never told what about- and that was that. No more communication. Their friendship was ruined.

She was seventeen now, not nine like she had been when she last saw him. She would be headed off to college in just a year, so it seemed pointless to try to reconnect with someone she knew when she was in elementary school. But, even with this, she couldn’t help but feel an anxious knot began to form in her stomach as they drove up to the beach house. They would either get along great- be best friend again like when they were nine- or it would be an absolute bust.

Now, she was sitting on the bed in her room, watching the window as she waited for him to arrive. It wasn’t long before his car pulled up in their driveway, and she got ready to head downstairs to greet him.

The cabin was fairly big— large enough for Garnet, his parents, Mercy, her brother, and her parents. The first room Garnet walked into was the living room which had two sofas along with an accent chair gathered near the fireplace. Figuring Garnet’s family was still an hour away, Mercy’s parents and brother went to go pick up groceries from the local store, so Mercy was the only person there when they arrived.

After she gathered up her courage, Mercy walked down the stairs, through a short hallway, and into the living room where Garnet was waiting for her. She had changed a lot over the past few years. When she was nine, as she’d been when they last saw each other, her blonde hair was cut short, and she had bright red glasses along with braces. She always wore plain t-shirts and shorts, nothing else. Now, her blonde hair had grown out past her shoulders, and her glasses and braces were both gone. Her pale skin had taken on a slight tan, and she was better dressed with her colorful patchwork pants, tank top, and white lace kimono.

“Garnet…” She faintly smiled at him. “I didn’t think you guys were going to arrive until later.”

“Oh, I’ll show you up to your room.”

Mercy led him up the stairs of the home, and it wasn’t long before they arrived in a small bedroom near the back of the hallway. It was rather plain with a bed, a desk, and a window on the back wall.

“This is yours,” she said. “Luckily, you won’t have to share with anyone. This place is big enough for my brother to have his own room.”

“Chuffed?” She couldn’t help but snort as the two of them walked back down the stairs. “I’ve never heard that word before.”

The two of them walked out onto the beach as the sun began to set, turning the sky shades of red and orange.

“Nah. I think it’s neat.” She let out a sigh. “Anyways, my parents are out in town, so they won’t be out for a few hours. Want me to show you around?”

Truth is, she didn’t know much about this town; she had only been here twice. However, she was sure they could find something to do if they looked hard enough.

“A… cuppa?” She laughed softly. “Sorry, but you might have to explain. Give me a definition or something.”

She pursed her lips for a few moments, thinking. “Hey, why not. I’m sure our parents won’t get home until later anyways, so…”
