don't love a dead man (o/o, kinda dark so heed the warnings I've written, open! Someone please join I'm lonely and bored.)

They saw him die. They saw it happen. The love of their life, dead from a blaster bolt through the chest by a mugger. So when he reappears seven years later, bloody and in need of a place to stay, they don't know what to do except stare, mouth gaping. And maybe punch him in the mouth, too.

Hannah stared at her ex with a blank stare. The stick in her hand with the piece of metal jutted out was red. Her clothing was dyed with a multitude of colors like pink and red.

Why that…color?
Why did he choose red?
Why did he bleed red?
The light behind Hannah masked her face with a shadow, but you could barely see the marks of a psychotic smile behind it.

Personality: Spunky and kind of a wild one, Cindy likes to make good first impressions, even if it doesn't last. Cindy tends to like people more than they like her, and can often come off as annoying or clingy towards other people, leading to distant relationships, causing her to be more clingy and annoying–it's a cycle.
Strengths: Cindy is very understanding of people and knows when to brighten someone's day.
Weaknesses: Cindy has low self-esteem, so she clings onto other people to sustain her mental and social health.

His hair is prematurely grey, with streaks running through the sides that make him look distinguished. His hair is otherwise a very dark brown, almost black. He has a chip in the back of his neck, now shattered, and multiple burn scars on his back.
Personality: He is a very gentle, very anxious man, but trauma has shaped him into a hardened soldier who only wants to get home to those he loves. Helix is a broken man, depressed and righteously angry and yearning for his partner and to be in love again.
Strengths: Helix is courageous, intelligent, and sharp-witted. He can cook well, and knows multiple forms of combat to heart.
Weaknesses: His depression, his cybernetic form. Keep this boy away from an EMP.

Random question: Do you want me to reply and/or start in multiple paragraphs (I'm talking like 4 or more), or are you fine with a bit less (an average of 2 or 3 paragraphs?) I know different people on this platform are different in that aspect and I seem to forget about that sometimes, so I just want to know what you prefer.

Honestly I don’t even write that much. Sometimes I write less than a paragraph, it genuinely depends on how much I’m capable of writing at that moment. Also, I can start, I had an idea for a scene.

The night was cold and damp, it had just rained and there was still a sticky, muggy feeling in the autumn night air. Helix got out of the stolen minivan, carrying a bottle of Chardonnay in one hand and a handgun in the other. Once he knew he was safe, he put the gun back in its holster and knocked on the door, holding his breath. Helix waited, knowing his wife was home, knowing that she always was nowadays. He’d been watching her, after the accident, after the funeral. He had so much to tell her, but could only stay the night.

For the first time in a while, Cindra was taking a shower. Years of therapy and antidepressants didn't do so much as stabilize her. Finally, Cindy came out and looked at herself in the mirror with a clean face, a clean body.
Tomorrow's going to be a new day, Cyd. Just look at you now! You're eating properly again! That's what her therapist said today, and Cindra was motivated by him to accomplish more. In fact, because of Dr. Bright, she had almost moved on from what happened Then.
At least, until she exited the bathroom in a pastel pink nightgown to hear the sound of knocking.
Who in the world would be knocking at my door in the middle of the night?
Walking up to the door and clutching the handle, Cindy made sure to make an attempt at combing her hair through her fingers. She turned the door handle and opened the door.
And her mouth dropped.
"What the-What the hell?!"

“Hey there, handsome. Shit, that was the wrong pickup line. Look, Cindy, I can explain.” he said, looking down at Cindra with puppy eyes. Those always worked to get her to not be mad, and she certainly was going to be mad. His shirt was bloody, hair a mess, and the chip on the back of his neck was still sparking wildly from when he destroyed it.

"But you're…you.." Cindy opened and closed her mouth like a fish out of water. "You're dead!" Cindra started bawling, stretching a hand out to see if what was happening was real while also cautious to even touch Helix. She honestly didn't know what to do. It was as if Cindy's chest had tightened around itself. Cindy–for one of the few times before the accident–was speechless.

“Was dead. They stitched me up pretty nicely, it’s all metal inside now.” he tapped his chest. “I’m home, dearest, isn’t that a good thing? I’m finally back to you.” he said, reaching out to hug Cindra. He wouldn’t touch her without her consent, but he was anxious to just love her again. He wanted to tell her she was beautiful, he wanted to worship her and tell her how important she was. He just wanted his Cindy back.

Cindra opened her arms and collapsed into her husband, leaning into his chest and clutching him for the moment that she had, just to be sure Helix was really there. Looking back up at him, Cindy frowned, and the next thing that touched Helix wasn't another hug or even a kiss, but a slap on the face.
"Seven years of therapy, and you didn't think to pop in until now? I was suicidal for the first year, you know that? You can't come back after that long and just expect me to accept you with open arms. Shit, I was almost over it! Now that you're here, I don't know what to think!"

“Cindy, love, please.” he couldn’t feel pain anymore, the slap didn’t bother him. “Listen. I tried to get back to you, I finally got away and… I brought some wine. Let’s sit down, have a drink, and let me explain.” he desperately wanted to return to normal. But…. one night. Then he had to go back to running. He hated the running. He wished he could take Cindra with him, so badly.

"Like you-!" Cindy held up her hand in a fist, ready to punch Helix. Instead, she paused, grumbled, and held up her index finger. "You get one hour. I'll reevaluate then. If I still think you're a piece of metallic shit, then I don't want to see you again. Elsewise… I haven't thought that far. Deal?" If Cindra was anything, she was fair. She knew that She had her times when she messed up and Helix gave her a chance to regain herself, so it was only fair to do the same.
Cindy opened the door wider and took a few steps back, fiddling with her fingers and looking at the floor.
"I wasn't expecting guests," you never had guests, Cyd, "so sorry that it's a dump. Um," Cindy kicked aside a pile of shoes, "welcome to casa de Scrane?"

“I remember. If you let me stay, I could help clean up? Never mind. Okay, it’s a long story.”

And so he began telling it. Helix never expected to wake up from death, but he did. He was alive again. In one piece. It hurt like hell.

The people who had revived him wanted him as a weapon. They tortured him with hot pokers to his back, pumping him full of drugs and chemicals and reshaping him into the perfect soldier. Someone nobody would know, someone off the radar. Someone dead. The corpse was a carefully constructed fake, and the funeral was crawling with their agents.

Who they were, even Helix didn’t know. All he could say was that he was happy to be free. Every time he went out, it was with a handler. But just a few hours ago, he was able to kill the person watching his every move, treating him like a dog, and run away to find Cindra. He’d tried so many times before, but now that he’d succeeded…

“I can only stay for the night. I just… I wanted to let you know I’m still alive, still okay. I was their assassin for years, but no more.” Come with me, he wanted to say. But couldn’t, couldn’t put Cindy in that kind of danger.

As Helix began to tell his story, Cindra began to scoot herself closer to Helix, to hold his hand and hold it in hers again.
"Oh. Alright. Um…" Cindy clutched Helix's hand in hers. "Do you-" she paused, "Is there anything I can do? I can't just say goodbye to my husband who came back from the grave!" Cindra interlocked her fingers with his and she kissed his hand. "I can't go through losing you again," Cindy murmured, resting her cheek against the back of Helix's held hand.

“Come with me!” Helix blurted. “I’m sorry. I know it’s ridiculous. You should get some rest, I shouldn’t have done this. You’ll be a target now, I can’t risk them hurting you.” he said, head in hands. How could he have done this? This was a terrible mistake, and now it seemed he had no way out.

Cindy's face softened. "Oh, no, no. It's okay, Helix dear. I'm here." She hugged him from the side, brushing away the hair from his eyes. "Besides, it doesn't look like I have any plans here. If I did, this place would certainly look better." Cindra chuckled. "And why wouldn't I go with you, honey? Whether you like it or not, I'm not losing you again. Here, look at me. This is life's way of saying that not even death can separate us."
And for the first time in seven years, Cindra Scrane smiled.
