“Thanking you,” Amber murmured, reaching up and pressing her lips to his. She was so going to regret this when she was sober…

William froze when he felt her lips on his. His hands held her shoulders tightly, eyes widened. What was she doing?

When he got into his senses, he pulled away from her, touching his lips.

“What… was that for?”

Amber grinned up at him. “It’s a ‘thank you’,” she explained before trying to kiss him again.

William tried to push her away, keeping his face raised.

“Do you kiss everyone as thank you?” He asked, surprised. Why did this drunk girl have so much energy?

“Nope,” Amber declared with another giggle, shaking her head as she continued to grin up at him. “I just felt like doing that.”

William felt his grip on her soften when she grinned at him, but he immediately tightened it.

“Go,” he muttered. “I thought your dress was bothering you. Take it off, remember to leave your bin next to your bed and sleep.”

Amber pouted at him, upset that he wouldn’t let her kiss him. “Fine,” she sighed, pulling away and turning around.

William stared after her, her exposed back making him swallow thickly. Shit. What was she even doing, acting like that? Pouting when he didn’t let her kiss him. What was she doing? And the blush on her cheeks due to her intoxication—what was he going to do with her?

“Hey, Blue?” He finally called to her, the words escaping his mouth before he couldn’t stop them. He began to make his way way towards her, knowing he needed to control himself but not being able to at the same time.

Amber turned around and tilt her head curiously, her wide, drunk eyes blinking. "Yes, William?” she giggled.

He bent down to her level cautiously, placing his hand on her cheek before he pressed their lips together. Her soft, warm lips. He didn’t know what compelled him to kiss her, but whatever it was, he hoped it wouldn’t show up again.

“You’re welcome,” he pulled away, a sly smile on his features. “Goodnight, Blue.”

Amber was speechless. She just gaped up at him, blinking in shock. Even drunk she knew that was odd for him. Hoping for more, she tried to tug him back down.

William placed his hand on her mouth, preventing her from kissing him again.

“That’s enough,” he murmured. “You’re drunk. Go to sleep, Blue.”

“But ‘m not tired,” Amber muttered around his hand, crossing her arms.

William rolled his eyes, grateful she didn’t try to lick his hand. That had happened to him once and he hadn’t taken that kindly.

“Too bad,” he deadpanned. “It’s late. You’ll regret it in the morning.”

“No I won’t,” Amber pouted defensively. “I want to.”

William quirked an eyebrow.

“You want to kiss me?” He repeated, trying not to let an amused smile show. “Why?”

“Because I liked it. Your lips feel nice,” Amber stated with a grin.

“Well, aren’t you going to be embarrassed when you’re sober,” William muttered under his breath, but he couldn’t deny the hitch in his breathing. “And this, sweetheart, is why I’m reminding you that you’re drunk.”

Amber stuck her lip out again as she looked up at him. “No fair… I’d still want to sober,” she protested.

“Then do it when you’re sober,” William told her, pretending to be exasperated. “Maybe I’ll let you. But right now, go to sleep.”

“Fine,” Amber huffed, pulling back and turning around again. Forgetting that her dress was no longer being held up be anything except herself, she accidentally let it drop as she walked to her room. She didn’t even spare it a glance before she stepped into her room, closing the door behind her.

William immediately turned his gaze away the second her dress slipped off, growling and running a hand through his hair. Why was she so careless? What did she think she was doing? Did she forget who had his heart?

Better yet, what was he doing, kissing her back like that?

When Amber woke up the next morning, it was to a splitting headache. She groaned and pressed her hands against her head, hoping it would help even a little. Sitting up to go to the bathroom, she noticed that she was in just her underwear…

“Crap,” she muttered as the memories of the night before came back. Though they were fuzzy and unclear, she still distinctly remembered one thing: she had definitely kissed William. “Crap.”

William was up early as usual, going for his morning run, last night’s memories still clear in his mind. Amber has kissed him. She said she’d want to do that even sober, but William didn’t trust her word. After all, she had just gotten out of a relationship. They both disliked each other, and she knew what he felt about Caroline.

When he came back, the first thing he wanted to do was drink water. Hopefully Amber was up by then, and had noticed the covered glass of water and the medicine beside it.

Amber had simply wanted to party, get rid of her feelings for a night. And it had worked, for a while. Now, though, she was in pain both physically and emotionally.

Slowly, she pulled some sweats on, careful to not make herself sick. When she was dressed, she walked out to the kitchen to grab some ibuprofen or something. Anything to get rid of the pain in her head. When she was making her way to the kitchen, however, she noticed a glass of water and some medicine on the table. She picked it up and went back to her room to take it.

William entered the house, shaking his head, breathing deeply. It had been cold outside, but running had made it better. Now all he needed to do was take a shower and he’d feel refreshed.

He noticed Amber's absence from the living room. He didn’t mind. He just tried to think of what she would think when she woke up. He already knew what he’d say, but what would she think? He was glad she was still asleep.

Then he noticed the lack of water and medicine on the table. She was, in fact, very much awake.

Amber swallowed the pills and washed them dish with a sip of water. She laid in bed and continued to sip on the water until it was gone. When it was, she sighed, pushing herself up to go get more.

She stepped out into the living room and immediately saw William. At the sight of the man, she blushed deeply and tried to get around him without saying anything.

William looked up immediately when he heard the door open, and Amber’s face greeted him. He shifted on his other leg and was about to look away when he noticed the blush on her cheeks. She was flustered. Not angry. Not frustrated. She was blushing. Somehow he felt satisfied.

“Well, good morning to you, too, Sunshine,” he drawled sarcastically, unable to hold the words back.

“Shut up, William,” Amber sighed, pushing past him and into the kitchen. She stepped over to the sink to fill her glass, lifting it up to her lips when it was full again.

“Well, isn’t someone in a fantastic mood today,” William snorted, unaffected by the tone of her voice. It was to be expected. He opened a cabinet to take out the bread, choosing to toast and butter it before eating.
