Amber stared after him for a while, his words echoing in her head even after he'd finished speaking. She blinked, shook her head, and sighed before turning back around.
She needed to get out of this dorm. Otherwise, she was going to have a really hard time with the man she lived with…
Wiping his face dry, William grabbed his things. It was late, terribly so, but William didn’t mind. It wasn’t as if they had a curfew. It also wasn’t as if there was anything he looked forward to by going back early.
It was one in the morning when William finally entered the dorm, his body aching from all the hours he had worked it. All he wanted to do now was collapse on his bed and stay asleep for days. The exhaustion didn’t fail to irritate him, either.

Amber had fallen asleep a few hours ago, but she woke up with a tickle in her throat and needing to use the restroom. When she walked out of the bathroom, dressed in loose sweatpants and an oversized hoodie with her messy hair tucked under the hood, her eyes lighted on her roommate, who was just walking in.
William stared at his dormmate before he broke out into a sigh, remembering what he had said to her during practice. She seemed to be perfectly normal, so he decided he hadn’t said anything bad.
“Good night?” He offered, quirking an eyebrow. Why did his mood seem to improve upon seeing her?

"Wha' time isit?" Amber slurred sleepily, rubbing her face. She peered at William out of tired eyes before starting for the kitchen. Her throat was still scratchy, so she was hoping some water would help.
William was horrified when he thought she looked quite adorable when she was sleepy. He shook that thought away.
“One thirty in the morning,” William replied after checking the time on his phone, cocking his head to the side.

Amber grunted, both at the late time and in acknowledgment of his answer. "I'm getting water and then going to bed. You should go to bed, too. It's very late," she muttered as she poured herself a glass of water.
William took a seat on a chair, eyes on Amber as his cheek rested on his palm.
“Yeah,” he agreed in a quiet voice. “I will.”

Amber turned around to see William staring at her, and she gave him a questioning look around her cup. "I look like a mess, I know. Take a picture; it'll last longer."
William let out a tired smile. “I think I’ve seen worse of you,” he chuckled, but didn’t remove his eyes from her. “But maybe I should. It’ll work for blackmail, wouldn’t it?”

Amber narrowed her eyes at him, taking a drink from her water. "Thank you. I'm glad you think I've looked worse. Such a compliment. But, no, it wouldn't work because that would require to care; go for it."
“I’ve seen better, too,” William added, blaming the comments on his tired mind. “Well, if you don’t care, then where’s the fun in that?”

"Precisely," Amber muttered before drinking the last of her water. She set the glass in the sink and started back towards her room. "Good night… Or, morning, I suppose…"
“Goodnight, Blue,” he murmured, watching her disappear into her room. It was only then that he picked himself up and walked into his own room, falling into sleep the second his head hit the pillow.
[TIME SKIP: December 25th, Tuesday]
William walked out of the room, tired. His teammates had been pushing him into attention the Christmas party they were having along with the football team, and it took all of him to not blow up. He didn’t even like parties. Why did they wanted him to attend, anyway?
Ah, right. Because they wanted to use him as a plan to invite more women.
William snorted before his eyes caught Amber on the couch, staring at the door with an unknown expression on her features.
“What are you doing?” William questioned, quirking an eyebrow.

Amber started when she heard William’s voice. She glanced over at him, letting her expression fall blank again.
“Nothing. It’s nothing,” she muttered before sighing and putting her chin in her hand.
William walked into the kitchen, eyes on Amber the whole time. He furrowed his eyebrows.
“Waiting for someone?” He questioned once again, though he couldn’t think why he was even curious.

“No, William,” Amber sighed, tearing her eyes away from the door to narrow them at him. “If you must know, I’m incredibly conflicted.”
William furrowed his eyebrows before realization hit. He sighed, shaking his head.
“There’s nothing to be conflicted about,” he said. “You’re not going to that party.”

“I know… I shouldn’t, but I have friends there, and I’m so bored right now,” Amber sighed, running a hand through her hair.
William heaved a sigh, running a hand through his hair.
“Fine,” he breathed out. “But I’m going with you.”
What was he even doing with his life?

Amber blinked up at him, a small smile turning up the corners of her lips. “Seriously? We can actually go?”
”But,” William started, glaring at her, trying to not let her smile affect him. “The second I know you’ve been drinking, Blue, we’ll be going home. Even if it means I have to drag you by your feet.”

Amber’s smiles grew as she stood. “Okay, that’s fine. Lemme get dressed, then we can go.”
William nodded in agreement, looking away immediately. He was being serious when he said he wouldn’t think twice about dragging her back. He still couldn’t understand his reasonings.

A few minutes later, Amber came out of her room wearing a red dress with black tights, a black leather jacket, and a pair of black heels in her hands.
“All right, let’s go,” she said with a grin as she made her way over to the door. “Could you drive? I don’t want to walk.”
William tried hard not to stare. He hadn’t really changed. He simply shrugged on a dark blue denim jacket over his black t-shirt.
“Yeah, I can drive,” he turned his gaze away, pocketing his keys. “I’d prefer that, actually.”

“Cool,” Amber hummed, straightening up to look over at him. She blinked once when she noticed what he was wearing, how the jacket looked rather nice on him… Clearing her throat, she turned away and opened the door. “Let’s go.”

“Remember my words, Blue,” William’s gazed fixed on her. “The second I know you’ve been drinking, we’re leaving, and I’m not letting you attend another party again.”

Amber paused with her hand on the doorframe. She didn’t look back, but her stance was slightly rigid, as if his words actually got to her. “Got it,” she said, much quieter than before.
