William bent down to capture her lips in a short kiss. “Thank you, sweetheart,” he murmured. “Now hurry up so I can eat with you.”

Amber's smile grew at the kiss. She was definitely going to like this relationship. He was gentle and soft, and he was so cheesy sometimes. Gosh, he was just adorable.

"I'll show my best, hun," she chuckled as she began working on her own sandwich.

William didn’t respond. He merely leaned against the counter, face tilted in her direction. He watched as Amber worked on her sandwhich, the way her eyebrows furrowed in concentration and the way her nose scrunched when her hair began to tickle her nose. He let out a smile at her.

William couldn’t stand most women. Scratch that, there were barely a few he could be near without blowing over. Caroline had been one. He’d tried to change for her and she never budged. Amber, on the other hand… she never asked for him to change. She accepted him as who he was—with or without his temper.

Without himself known, the woman had become moonlight to him, and he was going to preserve her light.

Amber was acutely aware of William watching her as she made her sandwich. She was determined to not let it get to her, though, and simply kept her eyes on the food. When she was finished, she turned a small smile to William and picked her plate up. "Ready?"

William blinked, thrown out of his thoughts but he didn’t remove his gaze from her. So what if she knew he was watching her? It wasn’t like he had anything to hide.

“Ready,” William nodded, picking up his own plate. “You work fast.”

"Mm, I like to be as efficient as possible," Amber explained with a grin.

“I noticed,” William murmured.

Amber chuckled a little and quickly pecked him on the lips before making her way to the table. “C’mon, let’s eat. I’m hungry.”

“Hey, when is your birthday?” William inquired, quirking an eyebrow as he sethis plate on the table. “I realized I don’t know when my girlfriend was born.”

Amber blinked in surprise and looked up at him. “January fourteenth. I… don’t think I know yours, either,” she realized with a chuckle.

“Ah, so it’s soon,” William murmured, taking a seat. “Mine’s November second.”

“And you didn’t think to tell your roommate that it was your birthday?” Amber teased, smiling over at him.

William snorted, reaching out to flick her forehead. “And what would have my roommate done with that information?”

Amber shrugged, sticking her tongue out at him when he flicked her. “I don’t know. Gotten you something?”

“That’s all right,” he shruggeg, looking at her daringly when she stuck her tongue out. “I don’t exactly expect gifts.”

Amber raised her eyebrows, a small smirk tugging at her lips when she noticed his look. She was almost tempted to see what would happen if she stuck her tongue out again, but she decided to just finish eating first.

“Well, I want to get you one now, anyway,” she declared before taking a bite of her sandwich.

William took a bite out of his sandwich, quirking an eyebrow. “You don’t have to,” he replied gently. “I don’t mind not getting anything. I’ve never been fond of celebrating my own birthday.”

Amber responded with a grin after swallowing her bite. “I’m getting you something, anyway. Give me a few days, though.”

“How can I change your mind?” William inquired, though it warmed his heart. “Is it really necessary?”

“You can’t change my mind. And it’s not necessary, but I want to. Think of it as a late Christmas present if you don’t want it as a birthday gift,” Amber said, grinning a moment longer before taking another bite.

William tilted his head to the side, watching his girlfriend as she grinned. He didn’t say anything—just kept staring at the smile on her face. Did she know just how beautiful she looked when she smiled? Perhaps that’s why she kept doing it. Did she also know it had become one of his weak spots?

Amber’s cheeks heated up slightly as he continued to look at her. Why did he have to look at her like that? It made her curious about what he was thinking.

“What?” she asked softly, setting her sandwich down. “Why do you look at me like that?”

And now her cheeks heated up. How adorable. William willed himself to not smile. Instead, he kept up the expression.

“I’m just thinking of how weirdly you eat,” he teased with a serious expression on his face. “Did you know you scrunch your nose like a rabbit when you do so?”

Amber frowned at her boyfriend, setting her sandwich down. She picked up the napkin sitting beside her plate, crumpled it up, and tossed it at him. It bounced off his nose, and she grinned.

“Be nice,” she teased.

When the tissue bounced off of his nose, William furrowed his eyebrows dangerously.

“I’ll show you judt hoe nice I can be, Rabbit,” he murmured. “Just wait till we finish eating.”

Amber blinked a couple of times, the blush on her cheeks returning in full force. “Oh… Okay…” she breathed, her eyes widened slightly.

William shot her a smirk, finishing his sandwich with a large bite. He absolutely loved seeing her cheeks heat up like that. It let him know he could get under her skin like that. In a good way.

Amber scrunched her nose up a little, shaking her head at him. She took another few bites and finished her food in silence.

“You’re cruel, William Jones,” she muttered.

“What can I say? I think teasing you is becoming one of my favorite sports,” William winked, reaching out for her plate and setting it on his before he walked towards the kitchen.

Amber huffed and stood up, leaning back against the table. “Teasing is not a sport. Stick to basketball, would you?”
