Quinn nodded a little, returning the smile. "Yeah, sure." he said softly, walking over to Sage. He was smiling softly. He ran a hand through his hair.
Eyyy... I'm bored //OxO//CLOSED//
"So is this your first year here? I don't recognize you." Sage asked, tilting his head to look at Quinn. He put his hands in his pockets, his right hand fidgeting with a rock that was in his pocket.
Quin nodded. "Yeah, it is. This was the first year that I was allowed to go." he smiled, though the smile was tight and a little bit forced. He shrugged, putting his hands in his pockets as well.
"The first year you're allowed to go? Interesting… My parents are always so relieved to have me gone for a good majority of the summer. They started sending me here the second I was old enough." He explained as they turned toward the lake.
"Yeah. My parents were…worried about corrupting influences or something like that." he replied, glancing over at the other boy for a moment, then away again.
"Ah. Makes sense… well if they're afraid about bad influence then you should probably stop walking with me since we shouldn't be out here right now. We are required to be in our cabins and we get in big trouble if we're caught outside after curfew. I should know since I'm usually the only one that does this." Sage explained with a sneaky grin. He was never one to completely follow rules.
Quinn laughed. "Well, I was already out here, so." he shrugged, looking over at Sage with a sideways smile. "Besides, that's…not quite what they were worried about." he shook his head, running a hand through his hair.
"Ah okay then. Perfect!" Sage said happily. He never got a chance to do anything with anyone else since everyone else were apparently good children and they didn't do stuff they weren't supposed to. "Would you like to officially join me in doing stuff past curfew and during activity time?" He asked, hoping the boy would agree to it.
Quinn cocked his head slightly. "Well…like what?" he asked slowly, studying Sage. He wanted to agree, he did, but he wasn't really sure he should. Depending on what Sage did here.
"Not much actually… but walking around and swimming in the lake past curfew, going out to explore on my own during outdoor lessons, occasionally taking one of the chocolate bars reserved for counselors. Ya know, simple stuff like that." Sage explained.
"Oh. Alright. Sure." Quinn smiled at Sage, tugging at the hem of his pajama shirt for a moment. "That sounds fun." he wished he had a hoodie with him. It was colder than he had thought it would be.
"I know it's not a lot but it just spices things up a little," Sage said with a little laugh. They came to a clearing of the trees that opened to the lake. "Well, would you look at that, we're here!" He said excitedly. He motioned for Quinn to follow him as he ran down to the water. He pulled off his shirt and waded into the water. He dunked himself all the way in the water and smiled at Quinn again.
Quinn chuckled. He raised his eyebrows a little when Sage ran in, then took off his own shirt, wading into the water after the other boy. "It's fucking freezing!" He exclaimed, wrapping his arms around himself.
"Ah it's not that bad. It's not as bad as last year for sure. You'll get used to it, I promise." Sage said as he started swimming around. He swam to Quinn then turned around and kicked his legs as hard as he could, splashing Quinn.
Quinn yelped at the splashing, holding up his hands to protect himself. After a moment, he splashed Sage back, smiling a little. "If you say so." he replied, goosebumps all over his arms and body.
"C'mon, follow me!" Sage yelled back to Quinn. He was already swimming, seeming to be going to the other side of the lake. "This will get your blood pumping and warm you up!"
Quinn swam after Sage. "Where are you going?" he yelled back, shivering a little bit as he swam after the other boy.
"You'll see!" Sage answered, "It's a surprise!" He started swimming a little faster, excited to finally share this place with someone else.
Quinn swam after Sage, shivering even as he swam. He was freezing cold now, and hoped he would eventually warm up.
"How's it going? You making it?" Sage called back to Quinn. He stopped swimming so he could ask Quinn without running out of air faster. They were basically in the middle of the lake, so it was the deepest there than anywhere else.
Quinn took a deep breath. "Yeah!" he called back, then accidentally swallowed water. He spat it out again, catching up to Sage and treading water.
"Great, let's keep going," Sage said before swimming under the water. He was a pretty fast swimmer since he was on his high school's swim team.
Quinn kept following Sage, warming up from all the motion. He took a deep breath when he surfaced, still following Sage.
After about 5 minutes, they made it to the other side of the lake. Sage got on the shore, quickly wrapping his arms around himself. It was cold outside of the water.
Quinn climbed out after him, hunching his shoulders and wrapping his arms around his body. "Brr!" He exclaimed.
"Y-yeah… this is the worst part after swimming," Sage said softly. He jerked his head to the side, motioning to a path for them to follow. He smiled at Quinn then started down the path.
Quinn followed Safe, shivering now that he was out of the water. He shuddered. "I-it's f-f-freezing!" He exclaimed.
"Yeah, I know… this is one of the coldest nights that I've done this. But I promise it gets better." Sage said turning around to walk backward for a second to smile at Quinn. He turned around again and turned left at a fork.
Quinn was still shivering with cold as he followed Sage. He took a deep breath, body shivering still. He wasn't used to the cold. He really wasn't.
Sage turned once more, this time onto a very unused path. It was covered with sticks and rocks, the bushes almost overgrowing it. He kept going, very accustomed to this path. He glanced back at Quinn to make sure he was doing okay.
