film noir, classic lit, and classic myths/folklore combined, let's go! (small group mystery RP)

In the dark streets of a city who knows to fear the night, there are those who have taught themselves to embrace it. When the Tower of Empress's Keep (think of it like the Vatican City but magic and polytheistic) gets their most valuable possession stolen, the Scroll of Mad Gods, it's a race against the clock to find out who stole it and return it before the pilfering piranha gets to summon the Mad Gods and remake the world. However, the Empress's Highest of Priestesses has commissioned a team to save the scroll. Our only hope is that they find it in time.

So! Taking a new approach! No templates! We have no information about your characters or what they're there for, only you can tell us that! The only rule is that they have to be based off of some form of Classic Lit, folklore, or mythology. Sound good? Cool.

Rules are no smut, have fun, follow andrew (Our Supreme Lord and Overseer)'s rules, good spelling and grammar, no one liners, and gore violence and swearing are fine.

Also this will have a detective-y theme, so if you want to make your character, say, a P.I. or something along those lines I won't stop you lol.

It was a dark, dark night, darker than most not for lack of light, no, but for the looking sense of dread that permeated your surroundings, even when you thought you had nothing to fear. It was the kind of night where you were on the lookout for some sign of humanity in the empty streets, but it was all in vain.

Enola of Empress's Keep had been waiting, in the back of the seediest of bars. She had been commissioned by the Highest Priestess to gather a group of… unusual talents to retrieve the Scroll of Mad Gods. Nobody would suspect this place, where shady folk came to do business all the time and nobody there would need proof of her reasoning to be here. Soon, a young woman walked in, followed by a young man, the two of them sitting down at Enola's table with haste. They looked far too proper to be in a bar like this one was.

"Elizabeth Bennet and Sora… whatever your last name is, I presume?" she asked, tilting her head.

"Yes, but don't bother with the formalities." the woman, Bennet, said.

"And Sora. Your associate won't be joining us?"

"They are of a peculiar kind, only showing up when they dare or please to and at no other time. I apologize for their boldness, I will inform them of anything necessary when the meeting is over." Sora said softly.

Someone slipped into the bar, dark circular glasses resting on the bridge of their nose. They wore something that could only be described as a mixture between film noir and alternative; Tall black boots, a black trenchcoat, a swishing black skirt, and a black top lip. Their heels clicked over to where Enola was, taking a seat on the edge of the table. Now that they were closer, a large swirling tattoo was visible on their skin, a blue and black ink drawing of thousands of eyes. It was clear who they were when they flashed their tattoo and let a peak of a mask covered in eyes from inside their coat, they were The Watcher. The owner, coder, and moderator of the site known for getting any information at any cost. The site was called The Watchers.

"Ah, and our next guest has arrived. Have a seat, we have much to discuss." Enola said, pulling out a chair for the stranger to sit down. "Now, you are the one who watches, yes? I'm very glad you are here, we have important business to attend to. Miss Bennet, Sora, this is the Watcher. They are very, very good at getting information, and are very, very good at distributing it at the exact right time without getting into any sort of trouble."

The Watcher held out a gloved hand, a smirk playing at their lips. "Lovely to make your acquaintance." They purred in a vaguely Italian accent, untraceable unless you've met an Italian. "I'm the moderator on the information brokering site, The Watchers. It's my pet project."

"We're certainly making each other's acquaintance. Elizabeth, friends call me Lizzie. I hope, I dearly hope, that it won't ever come to that." she said, refusing to take the hand. Sora did take the Watcher's hand and shook it, with a limp, slightly scared grasp.

"Estella, lovely to see you." Enola took the card and then returned it. She called for the waitress, and said, "Get me and my friends some drinks. Nothing too strong, unless you want to be hauled out of here by the bootstraps come morning." she said.

(Nah you're good. I'm going to allow other's characters to interact before Enola gives them their mission.)

Sora ran his weathered hands through bouncy, wavy brown hair and sighed. This… he didn't trust anyone here, and he trusted them even less than his… associate. Which was saying something, for sure. "So, now we're all here. What to do, what to do," he tapped his foot nervously against the table leg.

"Well, you can quit your fidgeting and just relax. Nobody's gonna do shit to us here if we don't do shit to them, so let's all have a nice drink and be merry, all of those lovely things." Bennet said, tossing her dark curls and examining her rounded face with a pocket mirror, touching russet colored cheeks that had dimples when she smiled or smirked. Currently, she was doing the latter.
